Login as root, and open the Grub folder. Open the file name menu.1st
Add two more '0's to the lined referring to booting up or time out.
By default, it should have 50. If you see 3, or 30, change it to 500.
The higher the number, the longer it takes for it to reach zero when it
times out.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong on this one, try changing the number: -1
Resave your changes and reboot your computer. Does the timer stop and wait?

Subject: Re: [newbie] Win2K dual boot?
i've got a tri boot of mandrake 7.1, win2k, and winME..no probs. the only
thing is though, i don't have bootmagic, so the linux grub will boot first
(menu 1) then i select windows and from there i go into win2k or winME (menu
2). that kinda sux cuz the timer is like 3 secs. i don't wanna screw with
the partioning sections manually, so i left it at that, but besides that,
nothing else.
ps- staroffice 5.2 is great at converting office2k files back and forth, you
probably have that with mandrake...get use to using it
