I have WP 8.0 (commercial CD) on Mandrake 8.1. I have gotten past the problem requiring libc5 and ld.so<2.0, and I have been able to get xwp running with the small number of fonts installed by default. However, I am having a serious problem trying to install additional adobe type 1 fonts. In short, xwpfi crashes when it tries to update wp.drs, shuts down with no error messages, and leaves xwp unstartable. I have reinstalled from CD several times, and the same thing occurs each time I try to install more fonts. When I try to delete fonts, I get and error message stating that the .all file or wp.drs is missing or corrupted. It appears to be a problem with wp.drs. Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?
I have figured out that for any given font, I need both the .afm and .pfb files for that font. So long as I have both, I should be able to install any adobe type 1 font, right? I don't know if this is related, but I also am having printer problems. During installation, I cannot chose the installed system printer which works with, e.g., Netscape and the print test. The only printer choices are $PRINTER and saving to a text file. When I try to assign a destination to $PRINTER, I get an error messages that there are no destinations available. Is this a known problem? Is there a fix for it? -- Jim Marshall
