I had a v.92 modem blaster in my computer. The cd that came with it
said broadxent, but the chip was from connexant. Do you know who made
the chip in your modem? Is it listed in Mdk control's hardware section?
If it is connexant, you may have hope, but my chip was unsupported(poor
research on my part). I am now running an external serial modem. Good
Luck!

If it is external then it can't be a Winmodem because it only has a serial
connection!

As far as I know even a USB modem can't be a Winmodem. A winmodem has a lot
of its processing done by the main processor, and to achieve this it has to
be internal and on a fast bus.

But I understand there are some external USB modems. Don't know what
software they require or whether there is any chance one or
 more of them
 aren't supported under Linux.

 Anyone know?

RE: [newbie] Creative Modem Blaster PCI modem

2000-11-02 Thread Liaw, Andy

I also have a modemblaster (don't remember if it's PCI). It's NOT a
winmodem, but it is PnP. I had to disable the PnP (thru a jumper on the
modem board) to get it working with plain old IRQ and DMA.

The ModemBlaster PCI is a winmodem.
Check Linmodem.org. There is a chance that there may be a driver available
 for your modems chipset.
Otherwise, if you want to connect to the internet in Linux you will need
 to
get a hardware based modem. There are PCI models that run under $50.

Andy
   They are two different modems
You have the ModemBlaster Flash 56II which is ISA and Is Not a winmodem.
The PCI modem which Creative has, the ModemBlaster V90, IS a winmodem

[newbie] Creative Modem Blaster

2000-05-09 Thread James McLaughlin

Lothar shows a modem but nothing about it there is not even a + for extended
listings.

I've got Mandrake to open modem using ctty0 it does an "at" check but there
is not response for at 1 through 7.

I am helping a buddy of mine get Mandrake up and going. Of course the OS is
up, but the modem is not responding. Does anyone have a current list of the
winmodems list or know any issues that there may be with Creative Modem
Blasters.
