Howdy David;

...some linux player is a little vague. What are you trying to do, what
player are you trying to do it with, what errors are you seeing? Does the
system you're using meet or exceed the minimum system requirements for
DivX? i.e.: 64 MB RAM, minimum 8 MB Video card, minimum P II 450 MHz
processor?

Let's just hope you're running Mandrake 9.1 (Bamboo) for this next part. Get
the Mandrake specific divx4linux RPM (the one shown is from mid March, I
don't what the latest is) from one of the PLF mirrors (Penguin Liberation
Front) such as this one:

http://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/linux/plf/9.1/i586/

You can add PLF as a software source by going to:

http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/

and following the instructions on the page. You'll be able to add Texstar's
contrib directory, a contrib directory for a Mandrake mirror, etc.

Finally; have you been to:

http://www.divx.com/divx/linux/

They have FAQ and support links from there. Best I can do since I don't use
divx.

Have you tried MPlayer? The releases come with libavcodec, which does support
DivX 5 too, and so far I have had no problems at all with any DivX.
