I didn't use the boot disks. I just told my machine to boot from the CD Rom 
and it did. Fully installed it from there.

Not everyone's pc can boot from the CD-ROM drive.  You probably need the
updated boot.img which can be found on any of the Mandrake mirrors.  I had
the same problem with the bootdisk, and the new image was the solution.
