BEST bet is to make direct modifications to the network scripts located in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory - and to make sure that your /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf are setup properly... Once you've modified those scripts, do a: service network restart ...and all should be well... might even be on line already, what does ifconfig (as root, without the quotes, in a text console) say?
