If its a matter of cost streaming ogg is free. ;)

i can use media player in my vmware session but the volume
controls seem to have a lower cutoff than rp in linux. is there
a current product usable in mdk 9.1 that will play the format
used by media player for the web broadcasts? strictly sound,
 don't care about video.

one thing you might want to try is Streamtuner, which is available from
urpmi.

many, many, many varieties of broadcasts available through the
Shoutcast network, music, talk, etc.

Very easy to install and use.

FYI - StreamTuner is also available at rpmfind.net as
Mandrake RPM's.

Just thought someone might want to know.

[newbie] web radio broadcasts

i can use media player in my vmware session but the volume
controls seem to have a lower cutoff than rp in linux. is there
a current product usable in mdk 9.1 that will play the format
used by media player for the web broadcasts? strictly sound,
don't care about video.

mplayer should do it.

get it from PLF sources and it should come with the necessary codecs.

urpmi --media plf mplayer

 Failed to create AF_INET6 socket

look at as far as settings or options to help improve the
 datastream consistency?

Looks like it has something to do with IPV6, I'm not sure how you would
deal with that.

google.com/linux gave me this:

http://www.google.ca/linux?hl=enie=ISO-8859-1q=Failed+to+create+AF_INET6+socketbtnG=Google+Searchmeta=

I'm not sure if mplayer can even deal with IPV6 connections, if that's
something you have to compile into mplayer of your kernel...
