Yet I can get sound from playing video file sin xine, or even mp3's in xmms. Anyone understand what is going on? I have a secondary issue: I recently re-installed mdk9, previously I could hover the mouse over an mp3/off file, and hear it play. A little icon would appear on the song when doing this. Now this doesn't happen, no sound, and no little icon appearing to symbolise it trying to preview the music. Related problem to above one? Help much appreciated, thanks! KDE and Gnome2 use different sound engines. ESD is the engine for Gnome, aRTS is the engine for KDE. You might have to double check your settings for sound preferences in order to get them to work properly. Sheesh .. 'enable sound server startup' in gnome. Did that, and my problems are both solved. Re: [newbie] Weird problem
Worked great, thanks El dom, 26 dic 1999, escribiste: Hi, I have a question for when I log on. Once kppp logs on to my ISP, I can't open the browser or ANY other program. This occurs as the root user and as a normal user. If I open a program BEFORE I log on, I can continue to use the program normally. However, I can't open any program that wasn't aleady opened before logging on. Thanks, Sam Walker The solution is as follows: Open kppp, click on config, select the connections tab, select your connection and hit on edit. After that go to the IP tab and deselect "autoconfigure host name from IP" . Hope that works for you. -- Guillermo Belli - Linux User #131340 ICQ #38321312 http://sites.netscape.net/memo81 (under construction)

Uncheck that and your problems will likely go away. John
