RE: [newbie] Which printer should I buy?
Don't get the HP 720 series - these are winprinters, and not generally supported by Linux. Hello Everyone, I am buying a printer next week and I am wondering if anyone can suggest a printer. I want one that works with Linux. Thanks

WalMart was blowing out the HP 697C for $98. Haven't given it a complete workout, but it doesn't look bad. I've been using two HP 695C printers for the past several months with Linux 2.2.5 and they both work flawlessly. Both WP 8.0 and StarOffice 5.0 have no problem printing with it!! I just went to their website (which may have different prices than in the local stores) and the model they are offering on the website for $98 is NOT the 697c, it's the HP 420c which is MUCH slower on printing (3ppm in bw, 4-7 minutes per page in color, vs 5ppm in bw, 1.7ppm in color for the HP 697c.) The listing on the Wal-Mart site (www.wal-mart.com) is $148 US for the HP 697c, still a darn good buy, I think! G -- John Aldrich COL Tech Support === Chattanooga Online Internet 423-267-8867
