RE: [newbie] Xfree 4.0

2000-06-21 Thread Jeff Lee

The XFree86 4.0 config file is actually XF86Config-4
(/etc/X11/XF86Config-4), and there are some differences from 3.3 concerning
the mouse pointer section that are outlined here:

Yep, I had the same problem. But over the course of 2 weeks I've figured
out how to fix it. Go to /etc/X11/. In there, there will be a "file"
named "X" which is actually just a link to the 3.3.6 X server. So remove
that symlink ("rm X") and then create a new X symlink, except that this
one will point to the 4.0 xserver ("ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 X") Now
restart X, and you *should* be back in X4.0. And on to that topic, what
do you use to configure X 4.0? None of the configuration tools seem to
work for X 4.0, and only end up making you go back to 3.3.6. One
simple question... I installed MKD 7.1 with XFree 4.0, and when I
loaded XFDrake con configure it, it installed version 3.3.16 and I
cannot go back to 4.0... Did ne1 had the same
problem??-- Anthony

I had this problem and I downloaded all of the
necessary files from
ftp.xfree86.org
and done a manual install. Everything is great now.
