RE: [newbie] no available partitions

2000-03-20 Thread Pittman, Merle

I have done exactly what you mention already actually. Its very strange, I
can install redhat 5.2 fine, but I can't install Mandrake 7.0, it cannot
find available partitions. redhat finds them find ??? Is this a possible
bug in Mandrake I wonder.

I am going to assume you have a minimal Win95/98 that you are using now .
 OK
then look for a utility called Ranish Partition Manager to donwload (free)
defrag your drive, and to simplify things create a 120mb swap and an
/partition into which mandrake will sort itself out, like many you will
probably rearrange everything several times as you learn more!!

You could fdisk the partition and leave it as free space. You should
 then
   be
able to install linux on the free space. *i think*

I am trying to install mandrake 7.02 on a old P133.
The install hangs when it comes to the partitioning sectiona nd
 says
   that
"it can find no available partitions", I know this is false, I have
 1
   GB
partition with nothing on it. Is there a certain format the
 partition
should be in for the install to recognize it??
