Or get the 9.1 RC2 or wait for the final.
In 9.1 diskdrake has the ability to resize NTFS, even that as done by
XP.

You have NT filesystems installed. Use partition magic or reinstall Windows
on just part of the disk.

you're running into trouble becasuse you'vebeen trying to
resize ntfs partitions. you can download 'BootIt NG', a
shareware offering (it's uncrippled and comes with a 30 day
free trial license) from:

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/

and put the installer on a floppy. i's self-booting and when
it starts you tell it you don't want to install and it then
becomes an in-memory partitioning/resizing tool that will
handle ntfs resizing. if you decide you want to buy it after
the 30 day trial it's only $34.95.

there is no help for ntfs until you get the final 9.1...

What about using something different - like Partition Magic, or even
going so far as to use a Win98 boot disk with fdisk on it?

If you've setup your Win2k/WinXP to use NTFS, you might find some
problems with the management scheme - because if you're using Dynamic
Disk on the drive, then that's going to hose it up because NOTHING will
resize or partition a Dynamic Disk except for Win2k/WinXP.

HTH! Cheers without beers!

Hi All,

I have been trying to use FIPSto safely partition my HardDrive before
installing Linux but it doesn't work.
I keep having the following error:

"Unknown File System"

I tried on disk formatted by Windows XP and on another disk formatted by
Windows 2000, but it fails on both.
PLease help.

Maybe fips won't work with ntfs.

These days disk partitioning during Mandrake installation should be as
safe as fips. Alternatively, try Partition Magic.
