Good luck buddie, I have a problem with my Adaptec 2940UW also, the only
thing I gotten from anybody on ANY message boards, forum or newsgroup is a
song and a dance. One gentleman suggested I change SCSI controllers, I'm
took a different route I'm downloading Redhat 7 as we speak. It's funny that
version 7.0 worked soemone tweaked the kernel or something I think to add
'raid' capabilities and the problems started. I thought Mandrake would be
the best distributions but (as I noted before) I'm looking at others. I
admin SCO Unix boxes at work and they have less general functionality than
linux for the most part but at least they do work with Adaptec controllers.
In Mandrake's defense Adaptec does not support the Linux community. But not
many people are going to ditch hundreds of dollars worth of equipment are
they?
Let me know if find out something.

Oh by the way on the Mandrake website (trouble shooting for Mandrake 7.1 I
think) there's a 'special' cdrom.img file that includes support for the
aic7xxx controller family. It might work for you.

HTH,
Al

  Hello
I have been using Mandrake 7 for some time without problem. However I
have
just put a new? motherboard in my linux box. The board is a Gigabyte
GA-586DX which has a built in scsi card. when I try to intsall either V7
 OR
V 7.1 I get through the first stages of install then get the message
"Installing driver for adaptec|AIC-788ou (module aic 7xxx)"
this is the correct card !!!
The settup then freezes and does nothing at all.
I have tried disabling the scsi card in bios but the same thing
happens, anyway I would of course like to use the scsi at some stage
 although
at the moment nothing is connected to it,

Can any one on this list help???
 P;eeeze.
 Pete
