Try not to expect the same handling as you did in windows. Do not (just)uninstall what doesn't seem to work for you, you might need it again later. Take your time to look around at what you've got installed...it's more than you think or can see at a first glance. Yes, I would certainly advise to _only_ install via the software managerthat will save some disappointments, depencies_wise. Rafa MandrakeSoft have been in dispute with the owners of the rights of 'Mandrake the Magician' a 1920's comic strip for some time. The use of the wand and stars in Mandrake's old logos did not exactly help their case. (now only the stars remain) IMO the name is not important, they may as well change it if only to get that magician off their backs. derek -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? SMART is a technology that does better dependency checking than urpmi or apt-get, and is package manager agnostic, so it can be used with urpmi or apt-get. In fact, it is already in contrib. Probably what will happen, based on the discussions going on on the Cooker ML, is that some of the cool elements of SMART will be integrated into urpmi somehow. But no one thinks urpmi will be ditched for apt-get, especially since apt4rpm is, as I understand it, unmaintained. -- /g Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Josenildo Marques wrote: It seems our favourite distro is going to change its name to _Mandriva_ (i.e., Mandrake+Conectiva), according to an article I have just read. The article says Mandrake bought the domains Mandriva.com and Mandriva.net. Conectiva bought the domain mandriva.com.br whois mandriva.com whois mantiva.com (might need to 'urpmi whois' first ) IRRC, there might've one or two others also. Speculation was that Mandrake registered those domains, shortly after the merger, on a just in case basis. Search 'mandriva' on a cooker ML archive to get the whole discussion. IIRC, Mantiva was the favorite. http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cooker And the latest newsletter says Mandrake is going to incorporate elements of technology from Conectiva, particularly in the area of the smart package management software and some of Conectiva's kernel enhancements.
