Try replacing "make bzImage" for "make zImage". I had a similar problem and the above worked for me. Re: [newbie] outrageous memory usage and still no MandrakeUpdate
I don't think that should be a problem. From my experience, the partition containing the /boot directory must reside below the 1024th cylinder. Re: [newbie] outrageous memory usage and still no MandrakeUpdate
Could this be the problem, since the swap partition spans beyond the 1024 cylinder boundary. If so, suggestions for remedy? Thanks, morris [root@heliopause morris]# fdisk /dev/sda The number of cylinders for this disk is set to . There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in certain setups cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK) Command (m for help): p Disk /dev/sda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes Device BootStart EndBlocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 128 1028128+ 83 Linux /dev/sda2 129 7895947+ 5 Extended /dev/sda5 129 383 2048256 83 Linux /dev/sda6 384 638 2048256 83 Linux /dev/sda7 639 893 2048256 83 Linux /dev/sda8 894 1021 1028128+ 83 Linux /dev/sda9 1022 1085514048+ 82 Linux swap Command (m for help): Morris Walton wrote: > > MandrakeUpdate started to work for me again I would swear that > the mirror sites did not have the update directory/link for several > days. > > thanks, > > morris > > Morris Walton wrote: > > > > Hi, > > > > I am trying to isolate a lock-up problem that I have mentioned here > > before. Re: [newbie] outrageous memory usage and still no MandrakeUpdate
MandrakeUpdate started to work for me again I would swear that the mirror sites did not have the update directory/link for several days. thanks, morris Morris Walton wrote: > > Hi, > > I am trying to isolate a lock-up problem that I have mentioned here > before.
