[Newbie]Reverse Video on Radeon Mobility

2002-09-24 Thread Craig Main

Hi all,

I have a Compaq Presario 2700 with a Radeon Mobility 32mb video card.
The device driver I am using is the ati one. Everything runs fine, but
If I try to play Tuxracer, it loads in reverse video, black is white,
blues are a kind of brown, and yellow is bluish!

Has anyone got a solution to this?

TIA
Craig

RE: [Newbie]Question

2002-09-24 Thread Fredrik Wänglund

This mailing-list is for questions about XFree86, not general linux/unix questions.

By the way, try to set PATH in your .bashrc

Subject:[Newbie]Question

How do I permanently append a path for my PATH environment variable?
I have tried PATH=$PATH:/home/ra.
I have tried PATH=+:/home/ra..
they both work...temporarily.
I want the PATH variable to STAY when I change it.
Every time I reboot, it reverts back to the original PATH.
Do I have to go into the file where it is located?
Do I need a different syntax?

[Newbie]Problem w/ last XFree fix

2002-09-24 Thread Laurent Blume

Hello all,

I applied the patch to XFree 4.2.1 (4.2.1-mit-shm-security.patch),
recompiled with exactly the same options, and installed it over the 4.2.1.
Right after that, I noticed some problems:
  - the transparent konsole from KDE 3.0.3 comes garbled (it gets the
pixels from the background, since the colors are the same, but they're
mixed up)
  - Mozilla doesn't start anymore, well, the process starts, and leaks
memory, I killed it when it was at 400 MiB, but displays nothing.

My system is a Solaris 8 x86, recently patched.
I haven't had time yet to investigate more, but since the only
modification I made is this fix, I deeply suspect it. I'm going to try
to compile the 4.2.1 without it to check as soon as possible, but I'd
like to know if somebody else encountered similar problems ?

Thanks,

Laurent

[Newbie]Where can I find patches for XFree86

2002-09-24 Thread Jacky, Lau

Hi,

Hello, I find that, inside the xfree86 package from RH, there is lot of
patch, is that all patches from RH, or part of the patches is floating on the
ML, or there is some repository to hold this fix/patch??

[Newbie]Accessing server from another user on localhost (no TCP)

2002-09-24 Thread Ripalda-Marin, Miguel-Angel

Hi everybody,

I have a running X server, launched from one user account in my Linux box,
with the following command-line:
startx -- -nolisten tcp
Now, I need to execute a graphic app as another user (for instance, 'root'
or whoever). I try to type:
export DISPLAY=:0
java -jar myapp.jar
And I get this error:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to server
...
I would like to know how can I use the xauth or xhosts (I would prefer the
first one) to allow other users of the system to use that X server

Best regards, and thanks in advance,

Miguel Ángel

[Newbie]Microtouch touchpad configuration

2002-09-24 Thread Frederic Provot

Hello,
I've seen requests about the configuration of touchpads in the archives,
but didn't found any response.
I've configured a touchpad using the "mutouch" driver (Linux
Mandrake 9) in XF86Config-4, and I can drive the mouse.
Unfortunatly it doesn't cover the whole screen! I've tried a enormous
number of combinations of Min and Max X and Y values, but either the
pointer can't reach a border, or it reach it far before my finger touch
the border of the pad.
The best config I found is like:
Option  "MinX"
"1400"
Option  "MaxX"
"15000"
Option  "MinY"
"5200"
Option  "MaxY"
"12000"
instead of the 0-16383 I've seen on the net in an example.
But of course it's not good, as Y coords don't match the real
coordinates. (I can't click on what I see).
I'm in 1024x768 pixels, and the above example of 0 to 16383 seems much
like a centered 800x600 screen.
So I'd like help for
- understanding the logic of Min/Max coordinates.
- getting a working example.
Best regards,
Frederic Provot

[Newbie]Installing Xfree86 4.2.1 under *BSD

2002-09-24 Thread Sean Patzer
from a command shell not running X (I do suggest that you log out all running X sessions) .
su (if not already there)
sh Xinstall.sh
XFree86 -configure (or is it --configure)
Once satisfied, I still retain my windows tendancies and reboot...yeah, I know.
I swing way too much between 3 worlds...ah the life of a sysadmin in a heterogenous enviroment.
Thanks to those who helped me with my nVidia issue. The resolution was to rebuild the kernel to the latest Linux release and the issue cleared.

[Newbie]In requards to responded permanent PATH setting solutions

2002-09-24 Thread Screamin4Q
thanks you all,
and..

1) "Jacky, Lau"  solution: export PATH=$PATH:/path/to
this is fine for making it global and accessible to other shells, but not permanent

2) Fredrik solution - setting PATH in bashrc works just fine

[Newbie]ATI Radeon 7500 All-in-wonder troubles

2002-09-24 Thread dj

Greetings good people.

I have the following system: ASUS A7A266 motherboard; AMD XP1700
processor; 256M ram; 60G Maxtor hd; Crystal soundcard; Linksys NIC.

I am running RH7.3.

When I install the ATI AIW7500 card, X is VERY unstable - lots of hangs,
crashes, and all that icky stuff. The same system runs fine when I put
my old Voodoo 3 card in.

I have read the info on ATI stuff on the gatos project website, but to
tell the truth I don't really understand it very well. I'm afraid to try
installing the drivers from that site because I'm not sure I understand
the sketchy instructions. (Duh:-P)

Has anyone got an AIW Radeon 7500 running well on RH7.3 or some other
linux distro?

Thanks much.
