[Newbie]Compiling X 4.2
Hi, I have some question on compiling X, my box is Linux RedHat7.2 based (with a lot of changes.) The previous version I use is XFree864.1 and now I want to compile XFree86-4.2.1. I've copied the xf86site.def as host.def. And modify the host.def as I wanted, I 'make World' than. And it reports " Full build of Release 6.6 of the X Window System complete. " So, I assume it really build complete, but actually, I find libX11.so doesn't exists at all. I find that, many other libraries are there, but just libX11. I think it may be due to my misconfig'd host.def, isn't?? Which option is related to this problem, I have revisit the host.def, but have no idea!! Also, it seems that, a lot of option inside host.def can control the build product. In other words, the option is instructing the build script to build something or not to something. Where is the definitive list of those option? 'xf86site.def'?? [Newbie]i845 chipset
I'm sure that this is an old topic by now, but I am still unable to make X work on my Dell 4500S. What I have done (or attempted to do): Upgrade the kernel to 2.4.19 with patch 2.4.20pre8 I have downloaded the main trunk from CVS and compiled it. Compiled the i830 driver as described at http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html (though I'm not sure that it worked) I can't seem to get my system to recognize the i830 (or i845 which I am guessing are similar). Any links to tutorials that might be useful will be appreciated. [Newbie]X Displaying Badly
Addendum to my original message... I tried again with the same settings as before but a different monitor plugged in (KDS Avitron 17"). Changing the monitor produced a different result. The column swapping appeared during boot and at the command line, but once XFree86 was started, the column swapping disappeared and fonts, cursors, etc appeared fine...except the colors were random as if the map was out of wack. This produced a result that was only slightly less usable. For now, that just leaves me as, if not more, frustrated than when I began. I only hope that added info can help to find a cure. I decided to install Yellow Dog Linux on a Motorola StarMax 3000/240. At the command line, everything appears fine. I use BootX to load linux with "No video driver" unchecked and the argument "video=atyfb:vmode:14,cmode:16" This works fine (as does vmode:10) to run at the command line, but once I go into XFree86, it's over. XConfigurator detects ATY Mach64 to be the video card. This is correct, as the Apple "Tanzania" motherboard, on which the Starmax 3000 is based, has ATI Mach64 VT onboard graphics. The screen displays when I load up X windows, but it is not exactly legible. Fonts fall victim in particular, but all images, cursors etc appear oddly. It appears as if the the rows on the screen are fine, but that the even and odd columns across the screen image were swapped around ( e.g. 2,1,4,3,6,5,8,7... ). Now, I have the feeling that I'm in a little deeper than I can guess my way out of. I suppose I could spend the rest of my days living on the command line, but have little interest in that. [Newbie]xman problems
Hi. I am just a X-windows grasshopper, so I'm sorry if this request seems a little trivial. I am trying to use the X-windows manual command xman. This appears to work fine - I get all the windows and buttons I should, and the xman help page is fine. However, when diplaying a manual page, I get the following : %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %%Creator: groff version 1.17.2 %%CreationDate: Tue Oct 1 11:52:02 2002 %%DocumentNeededResources: font Times-Roman %%+ font Times-Bold %%+ font Times-Italic %%DocumentSuppliedResources: procset grops 1.17 2 %%Pages: 54 . . . (cut due to length). What causes this, and how do I deal with it. I am running XFree86 4.2.0 on a Macintosh PowerBook G4, OSX, with XDarwin 1.1.
