Then why are you trying to run 1024x768 with 32 bit?
During installation you don't get the final resolution unless you use the test option.
If your problem is that you get the wrong resolution automatically then go into your XF86Config
(resp. XF86Config-4 if that's what your distro uses) and then go to the screen section, there you
will find one or several display subsection and possibly a default resolution.
I would remove the 1024x768 from the mode line for the 32 (24?) resolution
and if you don't have one I would create a display subsection for 16bit with 1024x768 in order to
have the choice between 800x600 at 24 and 1024x768 at 16
If you don't know how to do it scream and I will post an example...

I'm sure that my grafic card (S3 Trio64V+) DOESN'T support 32bit in
1024X786, but I'm sure that it supports 800X600 in 32bit resolution

No, my explanation wasn't clear, sorry.
The problem is that the monitor turns off when I try 800X600 AT 32 BIT!
that's all!

How good is the support for this card in xfree86? .. I read the changelog, and it mentioned 2d support is present?
Then, how would I go about installing support for the card on my box? .. Preferably, without checking out the entire source tree?
Finally, when should I expect to see full support for the card? -)

How does on turn off tcp port 32768? -nolisten tcp

can't find anything in the documentation that tells

You may still have 1024x768 in the mode line which could cause the problem because X would be
creating a virtual screen and be lacking the memory for it...
Additionally, I don't recall which distro you have, if it is one which generates 2 config files
one for X 3.3.6 and the other for X 4.x.x you might be trying to hack the wrong one.
Check whether you are running X 4 or X 3 (check the log - /var/log/XFree86.0.log - where you can
also find out which config file is used) or X -version.

Although Intel "Suggests" you try to use the vesa driver. It does not work. The best that I have gotten was 640x480 with 256 colors. And that was only by chance. The only hope that the i82845G/GL uses have right now is for the next Xfree86 version to come out. I have also tried to download and install the latest development version from the CVS repository. But it would not install.
Hope that helps,
Josh

I use depth 24 (theoretically identical to 32...) you could try that, but I am puzzled by your
first error message: Symbol xf86InterpretEDID etc. possibly someone else may help there...

I have the cvs compiled here. I am running mandrake 9.0 (kernel 2.4.19-16). So I am running now 1280x1024 Depth 24 and it works fine (there are some minor problems).

Hello,
I can't get my Xwindow work. I have an integrated graphics controller i82845G/GL and as I read from INTEL website, I inserted a " driver "vesa" " line in the xf86conf file. But all I got is a blank(black) screen with an error message when I exit which reads :

Then my next question is.. can anyone help me with getting the latest
build onto RedHat 8.0? For some reason when I compile and build it
doesn't install correctly. It actually seems that it doesn't install at
all. Perhaps RedHat uses a different directory structure then the
default used by Xfree86.

Well, I know that redhar uses the same directory structure, but there was a peoblem with the cvs tree a few weeks ago, but it is solved now, maybe you should try to download it again! After the installation (which went smooth) I had some problems with fonts and had to reinstall them, but other than that everything was fine.

411: monitor turns off if I try 24 bit mode

I use depth 24 (theoretically identical to 32...) you could try that, but
I am puzzled by your
first error message: Symbol xf86InterpretEDID etc.
possibly someone else may help there...
Lionel
If I try 24 bit (when I say 24 bit mode I mean 32 bit mode, and when I say
32 bit mode I mean 24 bit mode...) with Xconfigurator my monitor turns off,
with both (800x600 and 640x480) the resolutions available... thank you
again, I'm thinking about returning at my old RedHat 6.2, this 7.3 is also
too slow for my Pentium MMX 266 Mhz with a 2 megs video card...
