[newbie] Kde sound

How do you get kde sounds to work? My sound card is a creative labs awe64, and
I set up both the sound card and the midi player. Playmidi, cd player, and play
all work. Play in particular can play the .wav files that come with KDE. Thanks
for your help.

[newbie] New kernel on the boot floppy

2000-06-06 Per discussione Bryan Kim

Hi.

I have a few questions...

1. I am an experienced Debian user trying out
mandrake. I have a motherboard with promise 66 off board controller. That
controller/mobo combination requires a custom kernel that's been correctly
patched in order to work. With Debian, I simply use the custom kernel
replacement utility that comes with Debian's boot floppy set to make sure that
my custom kernel replaces the Debian stock kernel. That kernel replacer ensures
that everything still works on the boot floppy set. How do I replace the kernel
on the mandrake floppy to make sure that everything works
correctly?

2. Also, Debian has a kernel building package that
creates a custom debian package with the hardware optimized kernel and the
correct modules. Installing this custom debian package lets all the other
packages that want to know about the kernel know all the correct compatibility
information. How do I create a custom kernel package with Redhat/Mandrake that
also updates all the other packages that want to know about the kernel?
