[newbie] xmms problem

2004-08-10 Per discussione JASON JESSO
when I run xmms like:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ soundwrapper xmms

Segmentation fault

You've probably found a bug in XMMS, please visit
http://bugs.xmms.org and fill out a bug report.

Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x11c2)!

As you can see there is a problem.

If I just run xmms as is, no problem.

Known problem?

I forgot to say that xmms comes up. I load an mp3,
and then it crashes. The mp3 is fine.

If I run just xmms instead of using soundwrapper my
mp3 play fine in xmms.

I can just run xmms as is.

[newbie] installing a screensaver in KDE

2004-08-10 Per discussione JASON JESSO
Got my hands on the matrix screensaver.

I put KMatrix.desktop in
/usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers.

Control center does not pick it up until I create the
link in
/usr/share/applnk-mdk-simplified/.hidden/ScreenSavers

In works than, but later on (few days later the link
dissappears). All those links there get recreated.
By what process?

How do I make this permanant?

I keep having to recreate this link manually.

Re: [newbie] X server crash

2004-05-02 Per discussione Jason Jesso
I have attached the XF86Config-4 file.

My video chip is on-board and has 2 MB memory.

The strange thing is that these setting are the settings I had 2 versions of
Mandrake ago.

Seems now I have this problem since 9.2 Mandrake Linux. When I istalled
9.2 I got fustrated and never ever looked into it.

But now I really Mandrake 10.

 I think this is it:
(EE) ATI(0): Virtual size (1024x768) (pitch 1024) exceeds video memory

Can you post the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and we'll be able to suggest
 some corrections to it.

(II) ATI(0): Using 8 MB linear aperture at 0xFD00.
(!!) ATI(0): Virtual resolutions will be limited to 2047 kB
due to linear aperture size and/or placement of hardware cursor image
  area.
 ...
(II) ATI(0): VESA VBE Total Mem: 2048 kB

You should manage 64k colours (16bpp) at 1024x768, or 24bpp at lower
 resolutions.

How much video memory do you think the board has?

I'm no X-pert, but this *seems* to stand out to me:

Run 'XFdrake' as root, and try different configurations (should allow you
'test'
each one, til you get a useable config)

Jason, I had the same problem. Surprised I haven't seen it
 posted more often.

First, find the Kmix images in
/user/share/apps/Kmix/pics (The easiest way is to go through
 the Home icon in root.)
Right click each icon, go to properties and change the
permissions so everyone can use the damn things.
Second, check the permissions on Kmix itself just to be sure
 /usr/bin/kmix

Hope everything works. I had an awful time with sound. Never
 did resolve everything.

[newbie] kde startup sound

2002-01-25 Per discussione Jason Jesso

I can't get the kde startup sound to play when starting KDE with LM8.1.

In the kde control panel I have the startup sound checked off and I can
even play the test, no problem. When I log out I hear the logout sound.
?

Another strange thing is that in Kmix I don't see anything, just a grey
window. No volume settings, nothing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

[newbie] xsreensaver

Can someone tell me why the The Matrix screensaver is not included with the
xscreensaver rpm from Mandrake?

All I see is the man page? Also most of the screensavers in this package
don't show up in the control panel.

I am currently using LM8.0, but I recall back in 7.x the screensavers were
there in the KDE control panel including the matrix. I wonder what happened?

[newbie] lm8.0 - joystick

2001-05-10 Per discussione Jason Jesso

Has anybody got a joystick to work in Linux Mandrake 8.0?

Just an analog stick. In previous versions I got my joystick to work by
inserting joystick in /etc/modules. That doesn't work with lm8.

I can't even find the joystick testing utilities, like jstest, etc ...

It is in some joystick rpm that I can't find now.

[newbie] LM8.0 - ksh error on login

2001-04-29 Per discussione Jason Jesso

Hi:

When using ksh as the shell for a user on Linux-Mandrake 8.0, the .profile
is not executed.

I also tried this:

$ su - test
Password:
[1] 1388
ksh: /etc/profile.d/mc.sh[12]: export: -f: unknown option
[1] + Done (1) export -f mc
$

where test is a user using ksh.

It looks to me that something in bash is not compatible with ksh.

Do you have the same problem? ksh users??

I submitted this as a bug to Mandrake but have not gotten a response yet.
Can anybody help? I need ksh.

Thanks
Jason
