[newbie] How to upgrade apache to 2.0?

2003-08-27 Per discussione Kurniawan Mitchell
Hi,

I try to upgrade to apache 2.0 from 1.3
I use command rpm -qa | grep apache to see all apache
packages.
Then rpm -e apache apache-manual ... etc.
One of the files that I tried to remove have
dependency with perl and it not allow me to remove it,
unless I remove the other dependency.

1. Is this the correct way to uninstall apache server
?

I also have installed apache 2.0. I tried to overwrite
it ( it seems silly ). But when I run from
   /src/local/apache2/httpd start, it works

But I check on http://127.0.0.1 -- shows apache 1.3
manual. That's mean apache 1.3 have not fully
uninstall

2. How to solve this problem ? Other things, I check
at my .bashrc file. I have alias still refer to apache
1.3. (I can fix this but I still want to clean old
apache version)

THX for your help

looks like you need bison and flex, if you have your
 software sources
configured properly, you should be able to do this
 through urpmi.

service packs are a M$ conspiracy. you can download
the whole distro and
install, I recommend taring up your /home partition
and doing a complete
install, formating all the partitions. you can do an
'upgrade' but it
sometimes has some problems with libs etc.

Re: [newbie] how to uninstall php and reinstalled again?

2003-08-17 Per discussione Kurniawan Mitchell

1, how did you install php? rpm? tar?
I have been included on Mandrake 9.0 installation.
rpm installation - I used rpm package installation.
tar installation - I have never used it before.

2, why do you _need_ to un-install it? space? newer
 version?
I want to upgrade to the latest release.

3, as root, in a text console urmpe php

so urmpe php -- will it find all the php dependcy
and uninstall it? Can I just upgrade from old version
to newer version by overwrite the older version.

What's I mean, I just install new version without
uninstall the older version ? How ? Thanks

I tried to install php on linux mandrake. However I do
have an error message while do ./configure.

The error message said that lex . (something)
can not be found.

Is that mean I do need to install some other packages
or I should reconfigure ./configure file(I hope not)

Thank's
