[newbie] Netscape takes an eternity
why does Netscape take more than 5 minutes to startup? It says Reading file.. Is there some file I have to purge or something?

i cannot get Linux to boot up with eth0 ( ethernet card) up and running. I am obliged to go to 'netcfg' and 'interfaces' and activate it manually. It says 'eth0 failed' at one of the bootup script commands. I do save 'save configuration' to no avail. I have Mandrake v7.0. How can i do it automatically at startup?

Its a full duplex ethernet card. SMC1211 TX. It works well communicating(FTP and HTTP) with my other computer in my mini intranet i have at home. I can get it up and running manually but not automatically at boot up.

I have Mandrake 7.0 and I have been trying to gety PostgreSQl running but unsuccesfully. If I type 'psql', i get connection refused. if i type postmaster, i get 'postmaster doesnt know where to find database system data...' any ideas? Neri

[newbie] cannot install jdk1.3 for java
Hi guys, I hava a problem installing jdk1.3 in Linux-Mandrake. I downloaded the file j2sdk-1_3_0-linux-rpm.bin and converted it to the j2sdk-1_3_0-linux-rpm afte reading and accepting the software conditions(yeah right). When I try to install it, I get an error that glibc is needed by jre-1.3. I followed Sun's advice to use the 'force' option to no avail. I also tried to install a new glibc but i get an error that glibc-2.1.2-9mdk already installed. What should I do?
