 Hi,

 I have recorded several lps to CD over the last few weeks. Yesterday when
 I tried to do some recording, nothing happened. To clarify, I could hear
 the sound but it wasn't recording. I tried using both Audacity and
 Gramofile and no luck with either.

 I have 3 mixers installed (at least). Kmix, AlsaMixer and Aumix. (Should I
 uninstall some?) When I look at the mixers I don't see any reason why it
 won't record. Anybody got a clue what the problem might be?

 I'm not sure if this is relevant or not but since the last time I recorded
 an lp I installed a DVD burner and a second hard drive.

here's a shot in the dark, run Aumix, and look under the collum labeled Rec. if the
input source is green then it is turned OFF as a recording source, if it is red, then
it is toggled on, you can click on the button to toggle it on/off I ran into this
same problem as well, but with video capture, anyway, i had learned after a week of
digging around :)

 Untill now I thought that nVidia was the only option to play under linux.

humm.. there is also Matrox. They have available drivers for linux, and the
default xfree drivers support accelerated modes nicely :)

 PD I prefer Ati to nVidia; if the answer to the question above is yes I'll

howdy all... I seem to have recently developed a problem in mounting my
cd-burner...

just recently, when I try to mount my cd-burner with:

mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom

I get the following error:

mount: /dev/scd0 is not a valid block device

but it mounts just fine when I issue:

mount /dev/hdc /mount/cdrom

and can access it as a cd-rom, but cannot burn anything. :(

I have also noticed, since I upgraded to devfsd-1.3.25-19.2mdk, as per a
recent sercurity update, is when the mount problems started happening.

well... simpler, doesnt always make it fun'r :)

The script follows:

 #!/bin/sh

 # zip.sh
 #
 # This script just zips multiple files in the current directory.
 # The files are zipped as their own individual archives, not one large
 # archive as zip would normally do.
 # Written by Todd Flinders 12 Oct 2002

 files=`ls`
 suffix=.zip

 # For each file in the current directory...
 for filename in $files
 do
 # Let's not zip the script!
 if [ ! $filename == $0 ]
 then
 # Make sure we're going to zip a file, not a directory
 if [ -f $filename ]
 then
 # sed strips the suffix from the file
 # The if returns TRUE if the file had no suffix
 # The if returns FALSE if the file did have a
 suffix if [[ `echo $filename | sed s/\.[A-Za-z0-9~\-]*$//p` ==  ]]
 then
 # no suffix so the filename doesn't change
 zipfile=$filename
 else
 # remove the suffix to be replaced with
 .zip zipfile=`echo $filename | sed
 s/\.[A-Za-z0-9~\-]*$//`
 fi
 # zip the current file
 zip -9 $zipfile$suffix $filename
 fi
 fi
 done

it works MUCH better then the one I had.. :)

excpet that if a filename has spaces in it, ie:

long filename with lots of fun spaces and (13-J).xxx

the script bombs out of the loop, even if there are more files to process... :/

anyway.. thanks for your help, its been a LONG time since I had to write scripts, and
that was back in the ms-dos days :-P
