 Then service nfs restart.

In order to run NFS, you must also run portmap. Before you try service nfs
restart, check on the status of portmap '/etc/rc.d/init.d/portmap status'.

You can, of course, also find the NFS howto on http://www.linuxdoc.org .

[newbie] Mounting Drives on other machines?!

2001-08-21 Per discussione h3rb

Is there a way to mount a drive on another linux machine on my network? I
have 4 other linux servers on my internal network. And having to ssh or ftp
files back and forth is becoming an annoyance. Is there a way I can mount
the drives from the other machines? Kinda like you would mount a network
drive in windows? If it can be done..can someone point me in the right
direction.

Both drives are less then 6 months old. The DVD player is a pioneer 115 16x

Look in your /var/log/samba log and see why it's not starting. When it says

[newbie] Multiple NIC's with Multiple dhcp connections!

2001-06-22 Per discussione h3rb

I have 4 ethernet cards in my one server. Here's a breakdown of thier usage!
eth0 = static IP from a cisco uBR 924. This is used for my web server/ftp
server.
eth1 = dhcp from another cable modem for a game server
eth2 = dhcp from the cisco uBR924, internal network, for samba server
eth3 = dhcp from another cable modem for another game server

So I have a total of 3 'modems' that I am using for different things here.

My problem is...is that using netconf in mandrake 8 only allows me, from what
I can see, to setup one gateway. And this is the gateway of my static IP.

I can only use one of the connections that are present at a time. If I setup
the gateway for eth0 then only the web/ftp server works. If I setup eth1's
default gateway then only the 1 game server works, and none of the other
services work from the outside world.

How do I configure these 4 ethernet cards so that they all act on thier own.
eth1 and eth3 will be configured from dhcp and all traffic will go out to
thier respective modem!

Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

Cryptanalysis of Contents Scrambling System
CSS is a scrambling system used in the distribution for movies on

Re: [newbie] Remote access to Webmin

2001-05-28 Per discussione h3rb

First you need to make sure that webmin is running. At a shell do a :
/etc/init.d/webmin status
if it comes up with:
miniserv.pl is stopped
Then webmin is not running.
Do this at a shell to get it running (as root):
/etc/init.d/webmin start
Then it will print out:
Starting Webmin [OK]
And then to be sure it is running to this again:
/etc/init.d/webmin status
if webmin is running it will print out this:
miniserv.pl (pid 1421) is running...
(the pid will vary)

There are many many ways to remotely control your machine, command line is
all you need. Although webmin makes it alot quicker and easier because you
can use it from any machine, even if it don't have an ssh client installed.
If you want to use ssh you can run X through an X session, just make sure
that x forwarding is enabled in your /etc/ssh/sshd_config. And you can even
do this through windows. On my work windows machine I use a combination of
SecureCRT and Reflective X. SecureCRT is a windows ssh/telnet client and
Reflective X is a windows X server. Now if you are on dial up I do not
suggest doing this because it consumes alot of bandwidth.
