[newbie-it] alias

2003-06-20 Per discussione grunf
Salve a tutti.
Come funziona?

[newbie] assign alias ip

2002-05-23 Per discussione Norman Zhang

Hi,

I can't seem to be able to add additional ip alias to my eth0. Would someone
please give me the right command for it? I tried,

ifconfig eth0 add x.x.x.x netmask y.y.y.y

but after /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart nothing happens.

Regards,
Norman

If There are two different range ip adress in your ip network. You may use
diferent range. Actually, IP alias has been used for in this cases. it
doesn't right the same range ip adress on the one NIC. What is your
objective usage of ip alias?Because some special applications may prefer the
same range...

Sorry about my English, It is bad..

I think that you can from reading a discussion in the expert list on
this. It was last month some time. You might want to check the
archives.

I read the mini-HOWTO on IP Alias but was wondering if it's possible
to have two different IP Address assign to the card?

 Ex.

 Network Card with
 eth0:0
 IP Address: 192.168.1.100

 eth0:1
 IP Address: 193.5.200.100

or do they have to be in the same range like 192.168.1.100
 192.168.1.200?

 Thanks!
