No, he was saying that unless you are a strong guy, you won't be able to

2011-06-16 Thread Andrew Chan
Err, if they can pick up the motorcycle from the ground (by following
the right procedure, or just by brute strength), doesn't that mean
they CAN pick up the motorcycle (and that it would be all right for
them to buy, etc.)? Unless your friend meant lifting the back end/
front end (back end is easier, typically) clear of the ground while
the bike isn't tipped over. In which case I wouldn't agree with him,
because I find picking up my bike from laying on the floor much easier
than picking up my front end while the bike is on the sidestand.
Hurts the heart more, though.

I guess it's unlikely someone would try to produce a motorcycle so
heavy I wouldn't be able to leverage it off the ground.

No Andrew, if you look online you can find videos with the proper techniques
on how to pick a motorcycle. I have seen small girls picking up big harleys
just following the right procedure. That is when you realize that to be a
good rider you don't only need to ride, but to read and research a lot.

The thing that surprised me was how quickly it went from something I can

I bought my flasher from NAPA for $2.99. The item is not real particular,

[Nighthawk Lovers] turn signals

2011-06-16 Thread Travis Hall
My cb550sc turn signals went out the other day. I need a new solenoid.
I don't have much money but where can I get on. Junk yards don't have
any. I also need a front cover to the starter cuz mine is leading out.
And it would help me start my bike so I don't have to push start no
more. Some one please help me. Its my ride to get around to get to
work and back. To go to the store for groceries. I don't want to get
fired

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: longest rides

2011-06-16 Thread Hawaii Sean
Someone brought up an important point. Do you have a faring or
windshield on your bike? If not it would be much harder - I don't
think I'd make 350 miles without one. Several of us have the
SlipStreamer SpitFire (eBay item number# 370519439561 - $67
delivered). If I was going to start touring and doing long days I'd
get something bigger like the one on SlipStreamer S-05 Turbo. There
are several windshields on eBay for a good price - typically much
better than you can get locally.

You might also take a look at the Saddle Sore 1000 site and if you're
crazy enough go for it. I'd do it on the way there, you'd be wasted
the first day you're there but you won't be on the road - but I'm kid
of crazy in that I love doing long endurance stuff. I've done a 24
hour mountain bike race solo twice - noon to noon and ran the western
states 100 - 100 mile run that has to be completed within 36 hours - I
did it in about 30. These were both 10+ years and 20lbs ago but I
think people who do things like the Saddle Sore 1000 have the same
mental strength / flaw that makes them think pushing yourself to the
limit is a good thing.

Good luck,

Sean

I assume you are talking about the vfr? I'm sorry to hear that. I guess good
news are that the fairing didn't broke. Leavers can be easily change.

Dropped the bike in the driveway. Rolled it out of the garage and didn't pay
attention that I had put the kickstand up. Broke my clutch lever and
scratched my fairing up. So much for the nice new paint job. At least now I
know I can pick it up no problem. :-(

If they are the two tubes that come out of the T's that sit between 1&2, and
between 3&4, then they are the fuel overflow. They get routed down below the
airbox to let any possible overflow of fuel go onto the ground instead of your
hot exhaust.
There should be one other 'vacuum' line that comes off the tube between carb 2
and the engine that goes to the fuel petcock. It is a safety that only opens
the fuel flow when the engine is running.

Forget whatever you're using and go with this. It's far superior to
anything else on the market:

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] longest rides

2011-06-16 Thread greenzer...@gmail.com
I did a "coast to coast" run once...
left at dawn from the florida east coast, rode to the west coast of florida,
had lunch, rode back... It was about 850 miles and i was whooped. But i was
able to ride to work again the next day. I was on my 86 gl1200, my buddy that
also did the ride was on an 88 shadow 600... And another that only met up with
us in the middle of the state was on a cbr900... And we were all riding 2 up..
