[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: First ride!

2011-07-08 Thread jaybird248
To go the CB route, I use a Cobra 38WXST handheld radio mounted on the
bars, coupled with an IMC headset and PPT button/cable, plus a rear
mounted antenna (though you can use the "rubber ducky" antenna that
comes on the handheld.) Total cost was about $150. The radio is wired
to the bike's battery for power.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 83 450 wiring ???

2011-07-08 Thread James O'Gorman
The other 'stupid mistake' (that I've made) on is the engine kill switch. Just
so you know, it does need to be in the "Run" position for the engine to
start... I bumped it with my glove one of the first times out pulling up to a
stop sign. The bike cranked and cranked until it died and I had to get a
jump... and move the switch to "Run"... :(

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: K&N Air Filter on 2002 750cc Nighthawk

2011-07-08 Thread Allen Thomas
I forgot I did the exhaust mod, filter and washer mod at the same time. I did
the jet kit a week later because it was still lean on the top end. I also
richened the pilot screws by backing them out to 3 1/8 turns. I'm roughly at
700 feet altitude. After the jet kit I lost about 3-4 MPG. But having a great
running bike was worth it to me. As for the exhaust mod it is just a little
louder and deeper sound. All of these mods are subtle individually but add up
to a better mannered bike compared to stock.

Thanks,
You know after a 20 min ride i did notice that the bike sounds much more
confident, and after 4RPM it's much better @ picking up speed...
It's kinda cool,
Next I want to do the exhaust mod...

Has anyone done it?

Did you use one or two washers on each needle? the difference is nothing
crazy, it is very subtle but it does make it run better (specially if you
ride hard). Congrats in doing it without messing anything else.

If you don't have the tools, yes. Better to pay someone who knows

Pat,

I use the SENA communication system. It is bluetooth and I like it a lot,
but I don't know what is cheap for you. I think right now is around $300 for
the pair if you get it in amazon.

*Hey Pat,

*
*Just a consideration...download Google Picasa and create a free Picasa
web account and post your photos there. It will
automatically resize the photos as you upload and you can make your photo
albums "public" and then just share the link with us.
*
*
*
*If you use Facebook ONLY those with a Facebook account will be able to see
them. But Picasa will be available to anyone with whom you share the link.*

[Nighthawk Lovers] First ride!

2011-07-08 Thread Pat Patterson
Went for my first ride tonight! No insurance, No supervisor, No
Speedo, no brains but... It RUNS lol.
I still need to grab a batt and starter solenoid before I'll be
willing to ride downhill from the house ;o) But other than normal
grumpy cold honda starting it ran fine. No leaks from tank or
floats. It's parked in the middle of the driveway tonight just
incase but it held a balloon inflated for 3 hrs so I'm not worried

The trip dials have fallen out of view and the needle doesn't move so
I'm going to have to break into the speedo and figure out what went
wrong in there. With luck I can fix it.
rear brake switch... anyone know where it's supposed to be? And where
does it hook up to?

I need a manual and wiring schematic for it. :o(

Oh and I have a potential buyer for my ragtop mustang... Why is that
relevant to a honda forum? lol Bike Budget! Prolly going to waste ;o)
it on safety gear. New helmet, and maybe some pants and or jacket.

Anyone know of a Cheap bike to bike communicator? I'd like to be able
to talk with my coaches.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Tires

2011-07-08 Thread surfswab
There are suppliers who will ship tires you buy, direct to the
installers they partners with, instead of to you.

You pick a dealer near you from an approved list at the time you buy
the tires on-line, then all you have to do is show up at that dealer
with the bike or the wheels. IIRC there was a price break, too. Wish
I could remember a source, but I haven't shopped tires in good while.

I'm thinking it was Bike Bandit, mebbe.
