[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: bike count

2012-03-07 Thread MOPARJOE
I know I've aske dbefore, but still looking for any NOS parts I can
find for these 700-S bikes

I finally got the new bike ('84 original owner with only 2K original
miles). The bike is NO WHERE near as nice as owner made it out to be,
and not as nice as 1/2 the bikes I already have.

If I'm to keep it, I'll want/need to totally restore it, which means I
need a ton of blue 84 partsI also still need a red '84 tank decal
(I think right side)

Didn't think to take any of it actually coming off the truck.

But as I pulled in the driveway at about 10:20 the truck was right

All was intact and it looks gorgeous -- better than the pics even.
Put a little gas in it and tooled around our lot some. Starts good,

That was the best part of the day, however. Georgia requires a "VIN
Inspection" before they'll allow out-of-state registration. A semi-
cool feature of that is any beat cop can do it -- and they'll come to
you -- record the number and run it thru their "hot sheet" computer to
see if it's been reported stolen.

The not-so-cool feature is that because it's a low priority call, they
take their sweet time. Called 'em before noon, but they didn't show
until after 4, so the tag/title offices were closed by the time that
little piece of work was done.

I used the time to get acquainted with the bike, though, so it wasn't

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 1983 Nighthawk 550

2012-03-07 Thread Kyle Munz
Welcome to the group!
Windshields are pretty easy, most of the aftermarket ones just clamp onto
your handlebars and will fit on any bike. Most here seem to like the Slip
Streamer windshields, since a lot of them actually have a square cutout at
the bottom for our 80s bikes.
Sissy bar might be a bit harder to find if you're looking for OEM. There
are plenty of aftermarket ones too with varying levels of fit and finish.

[Nighthawk Lovers] 1983 Nighthawk 550

2012-03-07 Thread Army Nighthawk Rider
I just joined this group. I bought an 83 Nighthawk 550 about 5 years
ago. I am only 25, so yes the bike is older than me, but I love
riding it. When I bought the bike, she had been sitting in a garage
for many years with some carburetor issues. So my dad and I took at
it and cleaned her up real good. I was able to get some good riding
time on her, but then in 2008 the city I live in was flooded really
bad and my nighthawk was stuck in it since I was out of town. So for
the last few years I have been spending most of my time during the
summer to fix her back up. Well finally last year I was able to get
her running, she had some issues and towards the end of summer the
starter went out. Well just a few weeks ago, I had the starter
rebuilt and now I am hoping to have her running again for this
summer. I have always been fascinated with riding. My dad started me
out when I was two by just riding around the parking lot and then by
the time I was three we were out on the road. I know this may be
asking a bit much, but does anybody know where to get some decent
accessories for this beauty. I know that she is almost 30 years old,
(which in mechanical years is a long time) but I would really love to
maybe get a sissy bar, or maybe a windshield. So if anyone can help
out that would be great.

I've found Lexol - Leather cleaner - good on both leather and vinyl.
But if you want to be picky they (Lexol) have a Vinyl Cleaner/

So I bought a seat from a friend for my 83 but it did not fit. The seat I

So I do not know what NHs have the quick release seat, but it was not for

this one has the clips on the bottom and not the "L" shaped brackets to
screw it into the bike. Let me know. $ 50.00 shipped in the US via PayPal.
