[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Selling my Nighthawk - 2002 CB750 Nighthawk, San Francisco Bay Area

2016-07-20 Thread Phil
Nice deal!

I would have ridden to SFC from LA for that when I was looking for a
nighthawk. Yours looks like a newer sports touring model too. I think you
perfected a perfect model even better. I'm surprised it lasted 2 days. In
LA, you have to wait for ads of good bikes almost by the minute. All the
millions of dud bikes never go away from LA Craigslist!

Good job!

Thanks for checking, the NH sold two days after posting (Wingrack went with

[Nighthawk Lovers] 450 tank replacement?

Hi,
Trying to locate a tank to replace the Kreemed one on the junker I picked
up. Anyone know if a tank from the 550 would fit or if there's one from a
450 available?

Thanks!

[Nighthawk Lovers] Help; Bolt missing for a ground. 1983 650 nighthawk

2016-07-20 Thread Blake Manwiller
Hello; so i purchased a nighthawk and I'm not terrible mechanically sound
so bare with me...

I noticed it was having issues starting(was working fine the day before) so
i took the battery out to get tested; turns out it is probably the battery.
But here's the weird part. When i put the batter back in i noticed a ground
that attaches to the battery "case" that secures it. I can definitely go to
the hardware store and buy a handful of batteries and try to figure out
what size i need and how long; but I am really hoping; someone has a few
minutes to check on theirs? I've go threw the mechanical manuals posted
here and extensively googled, but i have come up empty. I have attached
some pictures to help you see what i see. I am not sure what the ground
attaches to; but figured it'd be bad to try to start it with it out
properly grounded.

2016-07-20 Thread Dan Molenhouse
Glad to hear the headlight is properly working now. This is a good example
of why I never take my vehicles to be worked on by anyone...ever.

And I would say that replacing the pod is probably not necessary, you know
where the solder is and how to fix it! If it does go out again, just
re-solder! Chances are the new pod will have the same issue anyways.

Not sure if either of the dented exhausts pictured in this thread (Paul's

stock exhaust pipes with dents or whatever.

The reason is that my bike has nearly perfect exhaust pipes, but this is my

the sake of having a perfect set of pipes with no rust or dents.

2016-07-20 Thread Col Fappington
No worries, happens to the best of us!

In response to your first post, there are quite a few of these calculators
out there, but many times they are overly confusing. I tried to make mine
as simple as possible, while still having lots of adjustments.

It is interesting because these Nighthawks don't have an overdrive or a 1:1
transmission gear...which is something I find to be annoying. The worst
part is how 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears are so closely spaced to eachother.
There are times when shifting between these three gears that I am not even
sure if I shifted...

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: No headlight problem solved

2016-07-20 Thread EGrider
For the last 10,000 miles, including the night Ol' Yeller was parked in
your garage last summer, the headlight was spliced into the left running
light wire. This meant I had no hi/lo beam choice. Worse yet, the headlight
went out every time I put on the left blinker. If I rode at night, I
couldn't signal a left turn or else I couldn't see to make the turn.

This was done by a "professional" mechanic who used "you said you were
leaving on a trip, so I just fixed it fast" as an excuse for not fixing it
right (and charged me over $100). Other places shied away from the job when
I explained it. Replacing both pods was $150 even from Partzilla, so I
decided to at least figure out which was causing the problem. Luckily, I
went beyond that and actually repaired it. The right pod is only $53 now,
so I may just replace it for the peace of mind. I'm not sure that soldering
job will hold.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: CB750c charging fault

2016-07-20 Thread EGrider
Funny timing. I tested the R/R and stator on one of my PCs yesterday, and
they both tested OK. Stator is producing 62v AC on all three wires with no
ground leaks, yet I'm getting 12.6v with the engine revved to 3.5K. Does
this mean I need to clean all connections? That's the cheapest solution,
but how do I get to them on a PC? Yeah, I know; pull all the tupperware.
Yikes.
