[nlug] Ubuntu for Server

2010-10-12 Thread Dave Tomlin
Is anyone using Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 for production servers. Seems
like most say to go with CentOS, but I'm partial to .deb and the
abundance of packages for Ubuntu. Thanks.

I'm using it as my offsite backup server (which primarily just runs dirvish
backups over SSH). I haven't had any problems with it, but what I do is
really basic. I primarily use RedHat based distros at work.

Re: [nlug] Ubuntu for Server

Ubuntu works fine for us as our DRBL clonezilla server. Easy to setup, easy
to manage over ssh.

Re: [nlug] Ubuntu for Server

2010-10-13 Thread Todd Wittenmeier
I've been using ubuntu server 10.04 at home for a few things mostly
development work and as an OpenVPN Server. I use CentOS too for other
things and have had far less trouble working with the ubuntu box,
probably because I'm a deb guy too.

Installing Sun Java in CentOS was less fun than I wanted.

Tried Ubuntu. Nothing like Debian for the server. Also use it on
the laptop and desktop. Never down.
