Re: [Nmh-workers] Updates to nmh

Weeelll ... let's just say that I don't quite agree with you on all of those points. :-) While I haven't encountered any problems with nmh's SMTP code, if you know of problems with it I'll be glad to fix them. Just to pick a random example, if you get a 4xx response back from the server you're supposed to retry later, and I bet we don't do that :-) Another one: I don't think we do MX lookups on the server name given in mts.conf, which is also a MUST from RFC1123. -- PMM ___ Nmh-workers mailing list Nmh-workers@nongnu.org http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/nmh-workers

Thus spake belg4...@pthbb.org: I think the cut-off is more likely to be gen-Xers than baby-boomers. MH used to be the default MUA at MIT until ~2000, which is where I picked it up. It was still the default on the servers at Iowa State when I graduated in 2001. I don't know if it still is, but I know a lot of MH users as a result. -- J. ___ Nmh-workers mailing list Nmh-workers@nongnu.org http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/nmh-workers

Not sure if it is still used at UCI, but I would bet some of the old-time profs may still use it. I still use it now. I have yet to find a GUI-based MUA that allows me to be as efficient an MH/nmh. It would be nice if nmh supported SMTP/TLS. I think it is more in danger of becoming obsolete in not staying up-to-date with later secure mail transit protocols and other mail standards versus the age of its users. --ewh ___ Nmh-workers mailing list Nmh-workers@nongnu.org http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/nmh-workers

Well, someone just needs to write the code. I wrote the POP SASL and SMTP AUTH code for nmh (both of which include encryption) because that's what we use here. If someone wants to contribute TLS support well, there's nothing stopping anyone. _I_ won't write it, because we don't use it and I'm not standing up a test mail server just to test out the code. --Ken ___ Nmh-workers mailing list Nmh-workers@nongnu.org http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/nmh-workers
