What if you enable vga_switcheroo in your kernel .config? If the Nvidia device goes into runtime sleep (after 5 seconds idle, not driving a console or anything) and is then runtime resumed, does it also hang? It would have immediate benefits for use with RetroArch and the mupen64plus (parallel) libretro core which recently added vulkan support for their new plugin based on the old cpu based angrylion plugin from the original mupen64plus project. Angrylion is not very usable without a powerful cpu despite being the most accurate plugin for nintendo64 emulation, but now with the new parellel plugin this changing quickly. However anyone using nouveau drivers can not take advantage of this new feature unlike those with intel, amd or nvidia drivers. Nvidia supports Vulkan on both kepler and maxwell cards, but given the state of maxwell and nouveau it would be great if at least kepler could be supported. The people behind nouveau are certainly aware of Vulkan, in a perfect world, would develop drivers for it. However, it's a lot of work. It took Intel developers many months working full-time and with several people to support it. Nouveau just doesn't have this sort of manpower. If you're interested in leading such an effort, join us at #nouveau on irc.freenode.net. I do realize it would be a lot of work and even though I would like to help with this I'm just not nearly at that level of programming yet. Perhaps the Windows driver is doing some rescanning automatically? Related: 20/111 Nvidia devices report an audio device. AFAIK newer machines have their HDMI port connected to the Nvidia card, so something is probably missing there.
