i am currently using ubuntu 11.10 64-bit , and while installing ns2.34 i am
getting a compiling error in tools/ranvar.cc line  213 and 561
what should i do to remove it ???

It's because of gcc-4.4. the ns core was designed to work with gcc-4.3, but
this version of gcc is no longer supported in Ubuntu Unity distributions.
You can apply the changes indicated here
http://blog.ceglug.org/venkat/?p=26to get ride of the errors, but make
sure of the output of ./validation after installation of ns.
