[NSP] Saugerties Piping Weekend

2007-04-24 Thread Ernie Shultis

I want to thank everyone who came out to the piping weekend. 11 Northumbrian
pipers plus their significant others made up a total of 21 people who came
to the event. There were 4 folks who came who had never been to Saugerties.
The dates for next year are April 25-28, 2008. Only 53 more weeks to go!
   Happy piping Ernie Shultis

[NSP] Saugerties Piping Weekend

2009-03-24 Thread Richard A. Damon III
Dear Piping Friends,

There is still room for a few more pipers at the annual gathering at
Saugerties. Either the economy has gotten so bad as to interfere with piping
activities, or people are just very slow at making reservations.

Many of you have heard that Ernie is expecting (hoping, actually) to be away
this year at the time of the annual Saugerties Pipping Pilgrimage. I will act
as coordinator this year, and I will operate under the guidelines of "What
Would Ernie Do?"

For those of you who are considering joining us this year but have not been
before, here is a brief idea of what to expect. The weekend is almost
completely unstructured. There are no instructors, no classes, no Group A/B/C,
and no concerts. It is completely up to you to do as you wish. People will be
playing alone or in small groups, doing maintenance, getting help with
maintenance, or just relaxing.

Our weekend is spent in a comfortable retreat center on 60 acres of land on the
Hudson, in Saugerties, NY. Although this event began life as a Northumbrian
piping weekend, there are many other instruments being played, such as Scottish
Smallpipes, Uilleann Pipes, Cornish Pipes, concertinas, ukeleles, and the
occasional kazoo! The only structure to the weekend is mealtime. Although
there is no requirement to take meals with the group, most people choose to do
that. The meals are simple and good.

The dates for the 2009 Saugerties Piping Weekend are April 24-27, 2009.

Costs:
$25 non-refundable deposit
Friday through Monday (includes Friday dinner, 3 meals Saturday and Sunday,
Breakfast & Lunch on Monday) $235
Friday through Sunday (includes Friday dinner, 3 meals Saturday, Breakfast &
Lunch on Sunday) $155
One night only (includes Dinner and the next day Breakfast & Lunch) $80

Please let me know if you plan to attend, so that we can get a general idea of
what to expect. If you know you're coming, please send along a deposit and
reserve your spot. There are a limited number of double rooms that will be
given out first-come first-served.

If you wish to check distances, the address for the event is:
Falling Waters. St. Joseph Villa. 43 Spaulding Lane. Saugerties, NY

You can send a deposit to:
Rick Damon
626 Old Schoolhouse Road
South Ryegate, VT 05069

I look forward to a reunion of long-time piping friends and to meeting new
friends. Feel free to write to me with any questions.

best wishes,
Rick Damon
