[NTG-context] resolution

2003-10-24 Thread Severin Obertuefer
Hi

I made a context-file that contains a lot of *.jpg pictures. The file is
very big now, because the pictures are in good quality.
I'll use the document for the web and I think there you can see no more then
72dpi (I'm not shure with that)
Is there a command to set down the resolution of the whole document
(including the pictures) ?? or do I have to reduce the resolution of each jpg graphic
with a graphic-program.

[NTG-context] Re: font distribution for Bitstream Vera

2003-10-24 Thread Na Li
On 14 Oct 2003, Henning Hraban Ramm stated:

  Ahoi!

  There's now a ConTeXt distribution of Bitstream Vera freeware font at my
  site: http://www.ramm.ch/fiee/texnique/?menu=0-1-4lang=en

  (Source of the font is gnome.org, redistribution is allowed, so I packed
  it.)

  Vera is similar to Verdana and Lucida; it contains Sans (4), Serif (2) and
  Mono (4).

I'm having problem with the fonts. I unzipped the file in texmf.local and
then with the file:

\usetypescriptfile  [type-bitstream-vera]
\usetypescript  [tiee][bitstream-vera]
\setupbodyfont  [bitstream-vera, ss, 12pt]

\starttext

This is roman, {\bf bold}, {\it italic}, {\bi bold-italic},
{\tfa bigger} and {\tfx smaller}.

$$E = m c^2$$

\stoptext

I got,

if you have a recent context, you can run

  pstopdf --method=4 somefile.pdf

and get a lowres file. This program is written in ruby and assumes that you
have ruby as well as GS installed.

 But, you can -- if you are brave -- try out the new-on-the-www port of
 texshow, the ConTeXt command browser. As a bonus, comments can be added
 to the commands (as in etexshow), but since you are not alone on the
 www, you can share and enjoy! One day I will add a section for
 examples. You can then share your favorite examples with all the
 other ConTeXt users out there.

 Here is the url:

I am brave. This looks very nice!

It reminds me of something I've been wondering for a while, though.
Why are certain commands, like startitemize, absent from the list of
texshow commands?

Is there a way to add commands to the web version?

Did you run texhash and updmap to make your TeX-installation aware of
the new files and write the new fonts to your mapfile?

[NTG-context] Figure reuse

2003-10-24 Thread Nigel King
Dear Contexnicians,
I believe that pdfs can make multiple use of pictures (and other objects). I
have a fairly large picture which I want to include a number of times, once
as the full picture and several other times concentrating on a portion of
it. Are there any commands for cropping other than going through metapost?

TIA

Yes. Try this example. You can see from the resulting pdf file that
the cow.pdf gets included only once.

\useexternalfigure[cow]
\starttext
\setupclipping[nx=3,ny=3]
% 1/3 of a sliced cow
\hbox{%
\clip [x=1,y=2]{\externalfigure[cow]}
\clip [x=2,y=2]{\externalfigure[cow]}
\clip [x=3,y=2]{\externalfigure[cow]}
}

\blank[4*big]
% its in the details:
\scale[sx=2,sy=2]{\clip [x=2,y=2]{\externalfigure[cow]}}
\stoptext
