[NTG-context] urw garamond typescript
Great, now it works! (with luatex-r1188 and context-beta) The typescript from Hans at the end of this message works fine. Some questions for my understanding: - Why 2 \starttypescript-\stoptypescript sections, and not 1? - What does \setups[font:fallback:serif] mean? - What is \definetypeface for? - What is the meaning of each parameter of \definetypeface? - Why does the third \starttypescript only have one parameter and no [serif]? After playing around with the typescript, I got the following minmal typescript, that seems to give the same result: \starttypescript [urwgaramond] \definefontsynonym [Serif] [file:GaramondNo8-Reg] \definefontsynonym [SerifBold] [file:GaramondNo8-Med] \definefontsynonym [SerifItalic] [file:GaramondNo8-Ita] \definefontsynonym [SerifBoldItalic] [file:GaramondNo8-MedIta] \definetypeface [\typescriptone] [] [serif] [\typescriptone] \stoptypescript \usetypescript[urwgaramond] \setupbodyfont[urwgaramond] I strongly believe, that Hans' typescript is better, could somebody explain why? A note from the MetaPost developers: We have noticed an incompatibility between the latest MetaPost v1.003 and the graph package. That's why I'm thinking about learning some graphic programming language... Anyone familiar with metapost graphviz can write few words how the two compare? Metapost is for drawing all kinds of graphics. It give you a very fine control on where to place objects, and is very well integrated with ConTeXt (your labels will be the same font as the rest of the document). With the new mplib, using metapost in ConTeXt is very fast (for me I do not notice any difference; with mkii it used to take aboud 3-4 sec). Graphviz is good for automatic positioning of nodes. If you have a large number of nodes, it can figure out the best way to place them. There are different versions, dot (for directed graphs), circo (for circular graphs), neato (for undirected graphs), fps (uses a different model for undirected graphs). For most of the cases, the output is average: the node placement is very good, but then it is difficult to get tex to process the labels, it is limited in terms of color effects that you can get. I find it very hard to modify the output. Graphiz does give metapost output, but I found it to be a bit akward to use. The good part about graphiz is that is very easy to learn, and for most cases the output is acceptable. Any other suggestion? There is dot2tex, which a python script that converts from dot (graphviz) to tikz. I have not tried it, but from the examples it appears to remove all the drawbacks of integrated graphviz with tex. It is tailored towards integration with latex, but it should not be too hard to configure it for context. Aditya Graphviz is good for automatic positioning of nodes. If you have Aditya a large number of nodes, it can figure out the best way to place Aditya them. There are different versions, dot (for directed graphs), Aditya circo (for circular graphs), neato (for undirected graphs), fps Aditya (uses a different model for undirected graphs). For most of the Aditya cases, the output is average: the node placement is very good, Aditya but then it is difficult to get tex to process the labels, it is Aditya limited in terms of color effects that you can get. I find it Aditya very hard to modify the output. I will probably not deal with many modes, but having support for all kinds of graphics is preferred. Aditya Graphiz does give metapost output, but I found it to be a bit Aditya akward to use. The good part about graphiz is that is very easy Aditya to learn, and for most cases the output is acceptable. But, as you wrote above, it is not a 'general' graphic package? Aditya There is dot2tex, which a python script that converts from dot Aditya (graphviz) to tikz. I have not tried it, but from the examples Aditya it appears to remove all the drawbacks of integrated graphviz Aditya with tex. It is tailored towards integration with latex, but it Aditya should not be too hard to configure it for context. Thanks a lot for your input. It seems that metapost is not the most easy way, but considering that luatex context are future, it looks worth to sit have metafun ;) Sincerely, Gour -- Gour | Zagreb, Croatia | GPG key: C6E7162D pgpWRpk046ZB6.pgp Description: PGP signature ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

Re: [NTG-context] \indenting[next] and math = no vertical space before the formula
Thank you Wolfgang, Aditya and Hans for your kind answers. Today the new ubuntu was released, and I did upgrade. That was not too smart: With the newer TeXLive in ubuntu 8.04 came an updated ConTeXt which gave me the problem explained in http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20070830.154143.005528b8.en.html again. Since I am finishing my PhD thesis and really want to use the utopia+fourier fonts, I downgraded to an old ConTeXt minimal for now. I have not managed to get Wolfgang's solution to work (just tried to copy that definition to my file, and that did not change the vertical space. I will try to make the change in core-mat.tex now). However, some questions remain: 1) I also tried the new context minimal with LuaTeX (to see if it worked better there) and found out that the fourier fonts are not included in the minimals anymore. Are there any plans to include them? Or to make some kind of package with these and other nice free fonts? 2) Will the problem from http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20070830.154143.005528b8.en.html go away in the near future (of new versions)? From the answers to that question I did not really get if the problem was a big one or not. Best Regards, Micke P PS I am impressed by the speed of LuaTeX. It compiled my document in ~20s instead of 1-2 minutes. Some parts of mkiv can still be sped up, e.g. xml processing, but there's not that much more to gain in font handling (that is ... we're playing with runtime mp fonts and there we can gain a lot when the new img related features show up). Also, some mechanisms will be reimplemented and as such be sped up. Hm, I hoped you would tell me why ;) The document is a math document with a lot of references, 5 different bibliographies. But no MetaPost graphics, just plain text + formulas. It is about 100 pages at the moment. Could it maybe be the fact that I am changing font? With LuaTeX I was using the lm fonts. I already had that when writing a small script to output PDF by hand. To be precise, on Mac OS 10.5 I need “fr_FR.UTF-8” to reproduce this behaviour, not “fr_FR.utf8” which looks a bit suspicious. I have already heard that the French version of some mainstream Linux distribution (Ubuntu, I think) set locales to the absurd value “français”, which was a problem not only because it was absolutely not standard, but also because the system couldn't guess what encoding the ‘ç’ was in!
