[NTG-context] Empty page at the end of document

2008-06-18 Thread Tomi Lindberg
After reading Wiki and searching this list I still have problems with the
additional empty page appearing at the end of my document. This only
happens when that said extra page would make the document to have even
number of pages but as my document is meant to be singlesided I see no
reason why it would be required to have an even number of pages.

Here's my product file (in environment loaded in project there is a line
"\setupsectionblock[backpart][page=]":

\startproduct book

\project atkmom

\component images

\startfrontmatter
 \environment fmatter
 \completecontent
\stopfrontmatter

\startbodymatter
 \environment body
 \component intro
 \component osbasics
\stopbodymatter

\startbackmatter
 \completeindex[title=Hakemisto]
\stopbackmatter

\stopproduct

So is there any way to get rid off that extra page in documents that would
otherwise be odd pages long?

Thanks,
Tomi Lindberg

That is strange. I have the context distribution from 2008-05-21 and
in it mtxrun.lua has the line: banner = "version 1.0.2 - 2007+ -
PRAGMA ADE / CONTEXT". Is version 1.1.0 in an experimental version? (I
keep away from beta versions, fearing something will break at the
wrong moment -- surely one of Murphy's law will take over at a time
when one cannot afford it ;-)

I did 'mtxrun --selfupdate', as Hans Hagen suggested, but no change.
Also I have a path variable LUAINPUTS to no avail:
103 ~: echo $LUAINPUTS
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua
Running 'luatools --generate' makes no difference.

Taco Hoekwater suggested the culprit might be msdos line-endings, but
I don't have these.

Could it be the directory structure in my setup?
   /usr/local/texlive/2007/bin/powerpc-darwin/mtxrun (symlink with 'ln
-s')
   /usr/local/texlive/texmf-context/scripts/context/lua/mtx-*.lua

So, I am still stuck with
"cannot open : No such file or directory."
on calling 'mtxrun --script fonts' etc.
The most strange of all is that 'mtxrun --script cache' and all the
others do give me the list op options on the cache script. (mtx-
web.lua being absent in the distribution). So only script fonts seems
to have something wrong.

well, for mkiv and the luatex binary updating is the best way to go ...

you need to write additional javascript code then, or alternatively use
a whole bunch of layers (just define 50) and use the normal referenceing
mechanism to turn them on and off (you can change actions, so then a
click can turn on/off severel of them)

[NTG-context] metapost question

2008-06-18 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Hi all,

probably an easy question: for a presentation, I would like to have an
area of my slide highlighted by placing a transparent grey layer on
top of the slide and having one area of this layer completely
transparent, a bit like this screenshot:

Re: [NTG-context] mtxrun

Hi Hans,

Hans van der Meer wrote:

I should have tried this myself instead of attempting to guess. :-(

The problem is this line in mtx-fonts.lua:

   dofile(input.find_file("font-syn.lua"))

input.find_file fails to find the file and then dofile gives the
empty error message. The standalone command luatools failed to find
the file, even though it is actually there. After a little experiment,
the problem seems to be that discovering of .lua files is controlled
by the TEXMFSCRIPTS variable (so *not* LUAINPUTS). I've adjusted
my texmf.cnf so that it now contains

  TEXMFSCRIPTS = .;$TEXMF/scripts/context//;$TEXMF/tex/context/base

and suddenly all is well again.

I think this is a side-effect of recent change in the file discovery
api. Hans?

Best wishes,
Taco

Get SC unipad and type identical logical input in Arabic and Farsi modes.
The makers of Unipad are Iranian and they implement both Arabic and Farsi
rules correctly, have keyboards etc. AFAIK, no other editor implements
the bidi alg as well.

I'll forward you something in this regard.

I didn't use Unipad that much, but I think Gedit (GTK pased) does a
perfect job, I'm not aware of any windows port of it though. I'd like to
know what features in Unipad (regarding Arabic) that Gedit hasn't.

Hello Nobody,
this is a FAQ: No, there's no newer manual. What you got is still
valid. If you reckognize errors, post about them.

Additional information is in additional manuals or in the Wiki.

the bidi alg as well.

I didn't use Unipad that much, but I think Gedit (GTK pased) does a
perfect job,

No, it does not ;-)

I'm not aware of any windows port of it though.

andLinux on W32 is wonderful, no more cygwin etc.

I'd like to
know what features in Unipad (regarding Arabic) that Gedit hasn't.

One example:

The following comes out correctly in Unipad, also in Opera's email
composer (don't know how it will look in your client). It does not come
out right in Windows Notepad or in gedit. Kate does get it right (and
other kde apps as well), as well as OOo:

==
European:
18%, 1--3

Arabic:
١٨٪، ١--٣

Farsi:
۱۸٪، ۱--۳
==

See attached as well.

Unipad is designed as a complete unicode utility, and has lots of other
nifty features as well, especially for editing Arabic script. Its
Arabic-script editing features are truly unique and useful. Eg, I
select/edit vowels horizontally not vertically.

Unipad has:

Char Info bar:
character code value (U+)
character name (if assigned)
character category (letter, decimal digit, etc.)
character block (script, collection, etc.)

Extended Char Info bar:
decimal character code value
encoded byte sequence (octals)
bidirectional character type
decimal digit value (only if the character represents a decimal digit)

Unipad is not a good choice for a programmer's or TeX editor, but in
overall unicode editing it is unrivalled, although it has not been updated
since Unicode 4.1.0 :-(

Best wishes
Idris

Oh, it is shame that even my terminal (mlterm) renders it right! I think
I'm going to report this :)

Fortunately, thanks to WINE, it does run under Linux, even their web
site lists WINE as one of the supported platforms.

In version 2008.06.11, \setcharacterspacing[frenchpunctuation] is no more
working. Here a test file:

% engine=luatex

test: oeps {\setcharacterspacing[frenchpunctuation]x: xx \bfd x: xx} oeps: test
\stoptext

Cheers, Peter
