Typescript for XeTeX and LuaTeX are written in a few minutes and you
can use all font switches you can't use if you define them with \font.

This works ow because you load the typeface in the chapter settings
but in your last mail you used only the \myChapter Font without the
default typeface from \setupbodyfont.

not necessarily. Unless you are explicitly using luatex then you are using
mkii

See the end of that document; it explains how to install the otf version.

But if you are using luatex/mkiv, then you just use the otf fonts
directly, no need for any pre-processing or any map files.

I have not ported my minion/myriad setup to mkiv but when I do I'll try to
post an addendum...

Best wishes

I have added support for farsi in font-otf.lua. Ultimately we need to add
all unicode chars that submit to contextual analysis, like Urdu, Pashto
etc.

Until Hans gets back, do the following:

open font-otf.lua

go to line 4660

replace that definition with this one:

 local isol_fina_medi_init = {
 [0x0626] = true, [0x0628] = true, [0x0629] = true, [0x062A] =

true, [0x06AF] = true, [0x06CC] = true,
 [zwj] = true,
 }

save and regenerate the format.

try your file again. Works here.

Note that artro.ttf does not seem to have the correct opentype info for
06CC, so it's not processed correctly.

Best wishes
Idris

Don't know. AFAIU, (simple) columns do not support this feature. For this
to be supported, \stopcolumns will also need to end the currentpage. What
should be the indented output for

\startcolumns
Some short text with footnotes
\stopcolumns

Continue with text that is in single column format.

I do not know whether this is possible with columnsets.

Add

Yes, at places the documentation is lagging behind. I can write about
footnotes in the TUGBoat column about ConTeXt.

When the manual is inadequate, I look at the sources. Once you figure out
how to scan them for information, they are easy to understand. In this
case, core-not.tex says that the options of \setupfootnotes are

Please send me -- off list -- a small sample file with the font, and I'll

Hi Burak,
I almost used any font from ubuntu, Microsoft, and Mac, but the
problem is the same for all of them. As an example please see
http://www.omidali.com/test.rar
in which I have included the source file and the output. I have used 3
different fonts, namely, Arabic Transparent and Time New Roman from
windows, and SimplifiedNaskh which I found in a thread by Idris.
Thanks.

Would it help if I ran mpost separately? Or is this problem related to
ConTeXt integration?

I thought so. Will have to check this.

Then I definitely prepared a stupid example … I'm pretty sure I saw
missing ligatures with fonts that actually contain them but wanted to
demonstrate the issue with a free font. Stupid me that I chose the
wrong one … so I'll look into this again and prepare a new example …

[NTG-context] TUG 2008

2008-07-20 Thread Taco Hoekwater
Hi all,

For those of you have not aware of this yet: in a few hours Hans
and me will leave for TUG 2008 in Cork, Ireland.

Partly because of a busy programme but mostly because the internet
connectivity at Cork appears to be less than perfect, we probably
won't be able to answer any questions (or at least with considerable
delay) for the next five or six days.

Best wishes,
Taco

This is weird (and worrying, Hans vd Meer had problems on the mac too).
The relevant bit of the log is this:

mplib : making format: metafun.mp, name:
/usr/local/context/2008-07-10-beta/texmf-cache/luatex-cache/context/b29711f44b226eed93986eab2faeaa2c/formats/cont-en-metafun.mem
mplib : problems with format: metafun.mp, name:
/usr/local/context/2008-07-10-beta/texmf-cache/luatex-cache/context/b29711f44b226eed93986eab2faeaa2c/formats/cont-en-metafun.mem

Now, the problem is that mkiv suppresses all of the mpost logging so
we can only guess at what goes wrong. Next week at TUG we will sit down
and try to come up with a way to improve the logging.

> - mtxrun --script fonts --list

You reported:
   ...-10-beta/texmf-context/tex/context/base/font-syn.lua:247: attempt
to index field 'data' (a nil value)

Did you run --reload first? It looks from the code like you can get
that error message if (and only if) there is no font name database yet.

> - ligatures

I just downloaded and checked: there are no ligatures in Delicious, so
this is not mkiv's fault.

Best wishes,
Taco

[NTG-context] Footnotes

2008-07-20 Thread Ulrich Dirr
Hi,

I'm recently testing mkiv/luatex (ConTeXt ver: 2008.07.18 18:38 MKIV fmt:
2008.7.19 installed; compiling with 'context file') for a new project. I
don't know if my questions depend on mkii or mkiv specifics.

I have some problems figuring out what kind of parameters I can use to setup
footnotes in a multicolumn layout (is it better to use column sets and
define areas?).

When I'm using location=lastcolumn then footnotes get placed in the last
column *inside* the text column while when using firstcolumn as an option
they will be placed below the first column but outside the text column at
the end of the page. And both columns don't get balanced.

How can I get two text columns balanced and footnotes place on the last
column at the end of the page?

-
To illustrate what I want (x=text, m=footnote text):

A) If the page is 'full'

xx xx
xx xx
xx xx
xx xx
xx xx
xx xx
xx xx
xx
xx 1. nnn
xx 2. nnn
xx nn

B) If the page is only partially filled:

xx xx
xx xx
xx xx

1. nnn
2. nnn
nn

-

How can I get footnote numbers aligned with the left margin of the
text/column block (margindistance=0em doesn't help)? Footnotes should run as
a 'normal' paragraph (no hanging).

I'm also quiet lost what options I can set with \setupfootnotes, because
they are not explained in the manual (ma-cb-en-print.pdf, p. 46;
cont-eni.pdf, p. 101) ...

My test file looks like this:
\setuplayout[grid=yes]
\setupbodyfont [9pt]
\setupfootnotes[location=lastcolumn,rule=off,numbercommand=\myfootnotenumber
]
\def\myfootnotenumber#1{#1. }

\starttext
\startcolumns[n=2,tolerance=verytolerant]
