[NTG-context] Math manuals

2010-03-09 Thread Mehdi Omidali

Hi,
I want to write a multi-line formula of the form
first-part=second-part(some comments instead of a
formula number)

 =third-part(some cooments)
 =forth-part(some comments)

I have read Display Math in Context (by Aditya) but I couldn't find
the answer to my question.

This code for example
\startformula

\startmathalignment[m=2,distance=4em]

\NC x^2+y^2\NC = z^2\NC\NC\text{(By Theorem Bla)}\NR

\NC\NC=w^2\NC\NC\text{(By Theorem BlaBla)}\NR

\stopmathalignment

\stopformula
Is this the best way?

[NTG-context] Mac installation-file not found error

2010-03-09 Thread Curiouslearn
Hi,

I tried updating my context minimal installation today (on Mac OSX
10.5.8) using the command

sh ./first-setup.sh --extras=all

Somewhere during the installation process the terminal gave me an
error saying something like

file \loadmarkfile{node-mig} not found. Enter another file name.

I did not know what to enter so I pressed (Ctrl-C) and then
installation process continued. I compiled a simple file and it
compiled without any problems. Should I be worried about that file?

Thanks.

[NTG-context] using xml setup in another one

2010-03-09 Thread Hans van der Meer

I would like to make xml-setups for general usage.

For example making possible:
dvd .. quoteQ/quote . /dvd

With special setup for dvd:
\startxmlsetups xml:case:casesetups % environment definition
% ?	\xmlsetsetup{dvd}{*}{-}			% ignore all inside dvd/dvd not
below

\xmlsetsetup{dvd}{% % these are not to be
ignored
 dvd|state|datadirectory|}{xml:case:*}
\stopxmlsetups
\xmlregistersetup{xml:case:casesetups}  % register this setup

and another one useable for general inclusion:
\startxmlsetups xml:common:commonsetups % environment definition
\xmlsetsetup{common}{quote|...}{xml:common:*}
\stopxmlsetups
\xmlregistersetup{xml:common:commonsetups}  % register this setup

As setup above it doesn't seem to work. What is the best route to
accomplish the idea?
Best would be restricting the nodes in the dvd's to those defined
under dvd + those in common, exclusively.

buffers don't work inside a setup

but why do you need a buffer? you can explicitly flush content

I want a buffer because I must save the contents until I can call it

The solution below flushes the contents prematurely.

\xmlfirst{#1}{description}

Re: [NTG-context] ntg-context Digest, Vol 69, Issue 49

2010-03-09 Thread Michael Saunders
 The question is: what have you set OSFONTDIR to, and does that
 location actually contain the system fonts?

Thank you, Taco. Double checking, I find that I have set OSFONTDIR to
C:\Windows\Fonts, which does indeed contain my 1074 system font files,
970 of them open type. The slightly different string you put on the
webpage:
mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=*
now seems to find them. That was the problem.

My next problem is to make sense of what lies under the heading The
standard way: Typescripts. It's clear that the instructions don't
mean typescript in the ordinary English sense of the word (a
typewritten document), but some new, undefined thing. From other bits
of documentation here and there, I've gotten the idea that typescripts
are files that contain commands. I know that there are examples of
typescripts given elsewhere, but without explanation, I couldn't
decipher them. I don't suppose there is a syntax of the typescript
language written down anywhere.

The first instruction stymies me:

1. Copy the typescript files into either

$TEXMF/tex/texmf-fonts/tex/context/user
$TEXMF/tex/texmf-project/tex/context/user

What typescript files? Where? Also, the two directories don't exist
in my distribution of Context Minimals. Are we supposed to create
them? I look ahead for clues as to where the typescripts for my fonts
might be. A little farther down there is a heading, 'Where to find
existing typescripts', but it doesn't talk about where to find
typescripts. It does hint at what typescripts are though---it says,
'Each of the typescripts below...' and then, below, there is a list of
lines like the following:
Latin Modern (typescript name: modern; this is the default font set)

Maybe a line like that is a typescript. Who knows?

[NTG-context] default for \xmlatt

2010-03-09 Thread Hans van der Meer
I would like to have a default value available to be returned in case
\xmlatt{#1}{attr} is absent. Something like \xmlattdefault{#1}{attr}
{default}.

Or is this already possible? I cannot find such a thing in the current
reference manual for mkiv xml-processing.

Thank you, Taco. Double checking, I find that I have set OSFONTDIR to

My next problem is to make sense of what lies under the heading The

Maybe a line like that is a typescript. Who knows?

It might be easiest to use the simplefonts module. See

There is also a page on typescripts. It does not really explain the
basic meaning of the word 'typescript', but it does give an example:

  http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TypeScripts

I've tried to give a thorough description of the font terminology
in ConTeXt in the 'fonts' chapter of the revised manual:

http://context.aanhet.net/svn/contextman/context-reference/en/co-fonts.pdf

When reading that, keep in mind that in MkIV the font subsystem is
a bit simpler because no encodings are used at all.

Best wishes,
Taco

Hans will look into this later, but if you want a quick hack
to fix pre-existing input, you can add something like this
to the document header:

  \let\oldnote\note
  \def\note{\oldnote[footnote]}

(or write \note[footnote][ref] explicitly)

In general, it is advisable not to use any \setup commands in

Right but for natural tables it's not so easy, maybe something like this
will help.

\def\dobTABLE[#1]%
  {\pushTBL
   % box not here
   \bgroup
   \TBLhead\emptytoks

 [\@@tbl\@@tbl]
 [\c!align={\v!right,\v!broad,\v!high},#1]%
   \doprocesslocalsetups{\csname\@@tbl\@@tbl\c!setups\endcsname}%
   \hsize\tbltbltextwidth
   ...

You can make your setups in the preamble with

\startsetups setups:table

  \setupTABLE[...]

\stopsetups

and use them in your document with

\bTABLE[setups=setups:table]
...

Hello,

Here a better minimal example-test-file:

\startbuffer
\setupTABLE[c][1,2,3][height=4ex]
\bTABLE[width=0.2\textwidth]
\bTR
\bTH 1. col\eTH
\bTH 2. col\eTH
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTH 3. col\eTH}
\eTR
\bTR
\bTD 1 row in 1. col\eTD
\bTD[nr=2] 2 rows in 2. col\eTD
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\bTR
\bTD[nr=2] 2 rows in 1. col\eTD
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\bTR
\doifmodeelse{wa1}{\bTD[nr=2] 2 rows in 2. col\eTD}{%
  \bTD[nr=4] 4 rows in 2. col\eTD}
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\bTR
\bTD[nr=2] 2 rows in 1. col\eTD
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\bTR
\doifmode{wa1}{\bTD[nr=2] 2 rows in 2. col\eTD}
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\bTR
\bTD 1 row in 1. col\eTD
\doifmode{wa2}{\bTD\eTD}
\eTR
\eTABLE
\stopbuffer
\starttext
Problem:\blank
\getbuffer\blank
Workaround 1:\blank
\enablemode[wa1]
\getbuffer\blank
Workaround 2:\blank
\disablemode[wa1]
\enablemode[wa2]
\getbuffer
\stoptext

TIA for any hint!
Cheers, Peter

[NTG-context] Dezimalkomma

2010-03-09 Thread Wolfgang Werners-Lucchini
Hallo,

if I write $0,8$ the distance between the ',' and the '8' is too big.
I can write $0,\!8$ or an other kern, but I don't see how I can write
a macro to avoid the extra effort.

Shouldn't be this gap in german (\mainlanguage[deo]) as big as $0.8$
in US? Is there a switch I have overseen?

---
\mainlanguage[deo]
\starttext
$0,8$

$0.8$

$0,\!8$
\stoptext
---

Thank you

Wolfgang

[NTG-context] bibtex problems

2010-03-09 Thread Tom
I am now trying to create a bibliography database and have, I think,
followed the documentation but to no good result. Myfile.tex contains the
following:

\setupbibtex[database=myfile]
\starttex
\startpublication
...
\stoppublication
\stoptext

texexec --once myfile processes myfile then returns no ctx file found and
ends with nothing to process

What am I missing?

Re: [NTG-context] suggestions for context documentation

2010-03-09 Thread Victor Eijkhout

\startitem Even an old manual can quite well describe
functionality as much didn't change. It's only with \MKIV\ that
some compatibility is dropped and only for obscure features. Of
course I could trick users by regenerating a manual with a newer
date. I often use the excellent book \quote {\TEX\ by Topic} which
is already quite old and does not cover \ETEX, \PDFTEX, \LUATEX\
or whatever but what is told in it is still true. I never look at
it thinking it being old. \stopitem

Hans,

thanks for the compliments.

Let me point out that the source of TeX by Topic is available under
the Gnu Public Documentation License, so anyone should feel free to
add modern TeX additions to it. Personally I feel that the eTeX
pdTeX additions are mature enough that they could be added, of course
with suitable markers to indicate their non-standardness. I don't have
the time for this, but I'd welcome a collaboration with anyone that
wants to invest the time.

Victor.

It looks like you misunderstood the documentation quite a bit. Perhaps
the wiki page helps?
