they are archived but not displayed. For some reason I've turned that off

necessary to change things for just a short period of time.

Thanks Hans. I thought something was amiss and figured it was a bug,
since it was working fine until a recent new version of ConTeXt.
Hopefully the PPA I am drawing ConTeXt from pulls the fixed version some
time soon. Was the fix committed to mainline?

At the end of `first-setup.sh` a command is shown you need to executed

if you consider beta to be mainline, yes (but not yet uploaded)

(it was a side effect of mkiv-ing the code .. keep in mind that these

it depends .. if you have small boxes, you as well use a regular
framedtext (with background) or when you span pages you can use
textbackgrounds ... the backgrounds you use is some compromise

The problem was a failure of rsync server on pragma. I was fetching from
rsync -a rsync://ctx.pragma-ade.nl/beta/
and that one seems to be down at the moment.

I changed to http mode now.

Ah, sorry ... we have been cleaning up the routers and as I couldn't

It’s also possible to set a certain number of lines with the following:

\starttext

\setpenalties\widowpenalties{3}{1}

\dorecurse{740}{text }

\stoptext

The number of lines is always “n+1” (3+1) because the penalty is added before
the last three lines.

Dear list,

I hate to reply to myself, but one week and no reply, so I do it.

Anyone knows if 1) is possible?

As for 2) maybe the \setuplayout[preset=strict] just suggested in
another thread does what I want?

Best regards, Mikael

[NTG-context] Bug report: --result switch fails in larger documents

2011-11-23 Thread Jon Crump
All,

Now that I've recovered my latest beta: context.mkiv 2011.11.14 16:17
(thanks Mojca, Hans) I can confirm that the bug still exists as
described:

On a short test file:
context --environment=arabtestI.tex --result=tmp arab-testII.xml

success:
mtx-context | result renamed to: tmp
system  | total runtime: 2.839

On a larger file of 54 pages
context --environment=svo-tei.tex --result=tmp svoboda_diary.xml

failure:
mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1

tmp.pdf not created, but svoboda_diary.pdf is updated instead.

Regression error? List correspondence from March with subject '620
pages limit?' seems related. Correspondence ends with "Taco found the
bug (thanks!): There is a fix luatex rev. 4093."

Thoughts?

the current version of luatex in the garden is probably somewhat older

It would be nice to have the integrals back as they used to be.

[NTG-context] Metapost graphics in separate file, help needed

2011-11-23 Thread Christian
Dear List,

I am experiencing a strange problem. I have a project, essentially with the
following structure (desperate attempt to keep track of my stuff):

mainfile.mkiv:
% BOF
...lots of setups and settings...
\starttext
\input metapostgraphics.mkiv
\input chapter1.mkiv
\input chapter2.mkiv
\input chapter3.mkiv
\stoptext
% EOF

I generate the PDF with 'context mainfile.mkiv'
So far for the structure. Now my problem:
metapostgraphics.mkiv contains several (4) metapost graphics with
\startuseMPgraphics{nameX} ... \stopuseMPgraphics.
In chapter2.mkiv I want to use them with \useMPgraphics{nameX}.
It worked well until today, when I added a fifth graphic. Then I suddenly get a
frame with 'undefined' inside instead of the picture.
I tried everything, checked for typos, tried different names, double checked
the MP-code etc. but to no avail.

It only works if I put the exact same MP-code between \startMPcode \stopMPcode
directly in the chapter2.mkiv

What is wrong here? Am I missing something? Did I get the input mechanism all
wrong?

What happens if you make a simple file with the 4 \useMPgraphics in it
.. does that one process? Maybe there is a problem with the graphics in
the sense that you cannto run them all in a row.

[NTG-context] Streams

2011-11-23 Thread Willi Egger
Hi,

I was looking for a possibility to typeset an article left in the original
language and right in the translation.I found then the mail of Thomas, when he
announced the availability of streams (2006). - Great, that is what I am
looking for!

However when issuing \usemodule[streams] I get immediately a fatal error:
undefined controlsequence. I believe is \defineoutputstream.

So it looks like the module is broken. - Is there another approach to get two
texts in different languages next to each other?

Kind regards

You don’t need the mode for MkIV. Below is a example copied from the source:

% \enabletrackers[streams.flushing]

Re: [NTG-context] Metapost graphics in separate file, help needed

2011-11-23 Thread Christian
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I' currently testing Hans' idea and it seems
to be a problem with caching.

The simple file I made where I just use each graphic runs into an error, but
the corresponding code (undefined control sequence '\sb') is definitely not in
the current source file of the graphics.

How do I clear the cache to force recalculation of the MP-graphics?

Actually, last week I was tempted to do that but I cannot oversee the

Re: [NTG-context] Metapost graphics in separate file, help needed

2011-11-23 Thread Christian
Oh boy. This is embarrassing!

Turns out the file that was open in notepad++ was not the one in the path of my
project, but had the exact same name.
And I was editing this sucker instead of the real file. I guess I should
reload my files during sessions.

Problem solved, it's sitting right in front of the screen and is banging his
head hard against the wall now.

I'm truly sorry that I have wasted your time.

Re: [NTG-context] Streams

Hi Wolfgang,

thank you for your answer!
Aha, mkiv does not need the module.
So I tried first the example en then used my actual document. - It runs through
indeed!

Now there is still the question whether it is possible to place e.g. on the
left page German text and in parallel on the right page Dutch text?

Have a nice evening!

fyi: There is no cache in mkiv as mp is run internally, which is why it

[NTG-context] Combinations without any vertical space

2011-11-23 Thread Aditya Mahajan

How do I create combinations without any vertical space?

The following test file

\definecombination
[overviewpage]
[distance=\zeropoint,
 inbetween=,
]

\starttext
\startcombination[overviewpage][2*2]
  {\framed{Hello}}{}%
  {\framed{Hello}}{}%
  {\framed{Hello}}{}%
  {\framed{Hello}}{}%
\stopcombination
\stoptext

gives the attached result. Note that there is still vertical space between
the two rows. How can I get rid of this space?

 The title of the second figure is displayed. The "bug" is because I have

Re: [NTG-context] Natural Tables---Including a bit of cell

2011-11-23 Thread Pavneet Arora

Hans,

This didn't quite achieve what I was looking for. I was hoping for the
formatting of circuit 4 in the output file test.pdf, rather than what was
produced for circuit 8. I modified the definition of \spare so that by default
a 15A breaker is assumed unless otherwise specified.

However, a more pressing problem is this:

If I remove the comments from the row previous, i.e., I have two rows for which
I want nr=2, I get the strange artifact in test+.pdf where the second row gets
wrapped up a row. Even with the comments in place, the last row is single
height. What I really want are two double height rows similar to circuits 2 and
4 but for the entire row.

Any suggestions?

A slightly ugly solution.

\def\unusedbTD
{\dosingleempty\dounusedbTD}

\def\dounusedbTD[#1]%
{\bTD[foregroundstyle=type,background=color,

You can also look at xtables for an easier way to change settings of cell.

[NTG-context] Layout: partial width blocks

2011-11-23 Thread Peter Park Nelson
Hello again,

I'm working on a 2-column layout for a journal, and I want to keep the
title and abstract of each article from running across the full width of
the page (a small graphic will appear in the upper right corner of the
first article page).

For the article title, this works:

\def\ArticleTitle#1#2%
  {\hbox to \hsize\bgroup
\setupframed[frame=off]%
\tbox{\framed[offset=0pt,width=.8\makeupwidth,align=right]{#2}}%
\hfill
\egroup}

\setuphead[title][%
  header=high,
  before={\hbox{}\blank[5mm]\vfill{}},
  after={\hbox{}\blank[5mm]\vfill{}},
  command=\ArticleTitle,
  style=\tfb\se,
  textstyle=\ss]

And for the abstract, I have come up with this:

\definebodyfontenvironment[10pt][text=10pt,interlinespace=12pt]

\defineframedtext[topwidth][%
  style={\switchtobodyfont[10pt]},
  width=.8\makeupwidth,
  offset=0pt,
  frame=off]

\definedescription[abstract][%
  location=serried,
  width=broad,
  headstyle={\ss\se},
  text={Abstract},
  before=\starttopwidth,
  after=\stoptopwidth]

However I can't control the lineheight within the abstract; I'm stuck with
the default lineheight but I would ilke it to be larger.

1. Can someone tell me why I can change the font size inside the abstract
block but not control the line height?

2. Is there a more efficient way of defining an area that is narrower than
the full page width to hold these items, instead of using
defineframedtext/definedescription for each one?

Thanks,
PPN
