That's not an important point but I tried an installation after removing
this status file and I still get the mkii directory. I also tried to set
engines.pdftex and engines.xetex to false in the status file but nothing

After a lot of tests, I found the origin of the problem:
- I had a custom texmfcache dir set in my .bashrc file:
  > export TEXMFCACHE="${HOME}/.texmf-var"
- I certainly changed by mistake the acces rights of this texmfcache
  dir so it was write/read/execute protected.

So I change the acces rights of the dir and ran 'mtxrun --generate'
again and this solved everything. Maybe this can help to add checks for
this case.

thing (however, I wonder why first-setup.sh installs the mkii dir when
called with --engine=luatex…)

Is the a way for automating such negative tracking?


I seem to remember seeing a demo (either by Hans or Idris) for Arabic 
typesetting where some optimizations were performed after the linebreaks. 
I wonder if similar approach could be used here.

After setting up a mwe I found that it is a font related issue.

When I don't specify a font, it works. --> example.tex

When I choose EB Garamond, it does not work. -- example-Garamond.tex

Please provide a minimal example of your problem. It’s impossible to help when 
we have no clue what you’re doing.

[NTG-context] \replaceword and \setreplacements with xml files

some time ago I ask for a way to selectively suppress ligatures. Hans
told me to use the replacement feature.

Both solutions work fine if I use them in a simple context file, but I
can't use neither solution in my xml processing.

I use a customized version of the from-pandoc-to-context solution of Pablo.

When I place the replacement commands somewhere in the style file I get
no result. I can see no error message. The file is compiled just fine
but without replacements.

Has anyone yet implemented replacements in xml processing and can give
me a hint where to place the commands?

Everything works normally here after updating an existing minimal tree is all I 
can say. And I’m really glad about the separation of mkii and mkiv code, it’ll 
make it so much easier to look for macro definitions in the source.
