[NTG-context] Line height for smaller fonts. (Migrating from LaTeX to ConTeXt:) forcing new line and new page
Hello, let's have the following example: --- \starttext \tt \input tufte \hairline \tfx \input tufte \hairline \tfxx \input tufte \stoptext --- When I look at the result, I see the smaller font the bigger gap between lines (or this may be taken as line height relative to letter height). Another question: How to force new line and new page to start? - LaTeX provides \newline, \newpage\ linebreak and \pagebreak commands - see e.g. http://www.personal.ceu.hu/tex/breaking.htm. [NTG-context] Verbatim text loaded from a file?
Hello, I'd need to show contents of a (text) file like verbatim text (with a monospace font). So to do something being described at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Verbatim_text using \startcode SOME TEXT \stop code, but the difference is that I don't need to write SOME TEXT manually but I need to load it from a (text) file. Moreover, I'd need to have the following options: - To alter the font used for numbering lines, so that it would be smaller than the normal text. - To specify number of the first and/or last line to be printed. - The input file may contain the end-of-page character, \0C. So I'd need this char - to be ignored - and/or to force printing from a new page. Is there a ConTeXt command which would provide all above? (NB: When I worked with LaTeX, these features were mostly provided by \VerbatimInput command from fancyvrb package.) Kind regards, Lukáš -- Ing. Hello, Sorry, I guess I misunderstood you: You mean the font of the numbers? I mean font (or or its size) used for printing for line numbers - see http://ftp.cstug.cz/pub/CTAN/macros/latex/contrib/fancyvrb/fancyvrb.pdf, pg. 11: line numbers which are turned on by numbers=left are printed with small (xsmall?) font; that's what I'm trying to achieve. - I'll try to look into wiki.ctx. Don't take everything there as perfect or the official way, as it is just a users wiki, like our wiki. http://lua-users.org/wiki/ Hello, I'd say there is no universal naming convention. For example I found local variables written with upper case (http://lua-users.org/wiki/AsciiMenu) (local DASHES = string.rep('-', 80)) - it is not very common in programming to name local variables with upper case. But in this case - - it was probably to mark the variable as CONSTANT (as Lua doesn't have const keyword like C, where uppercase names are generally used for macros as constants or enums). So: - namespaces (modules) are generally named with lowercase names ('mynamespace.') (like in C? 'std::', 'boost::'), - variables are generally named with lowercase names ('_' may be used inside, so we get 'myvar' or 'my_var') - - constants with uppercase? (local PFX = '#'?) May be. - - global variables? One may prefer prefixing such variables somehow, so we get '_my_pfx' (or '_MyPfx' or '_myPfx')? (In C/Cpp, personally I use the 'g' prefix and camel notation, so I get 'gMyVar', opposite to all other vars with lowercase names like 'my_inner_var'.) But if a variable is to be global, it's better to encapsulate it to a namespace; thus mark of globality in the name gets unnecessary as we access the variable like 'mynamespace.var' (it's obvious the variable is global for that namespace). - functions? Naming like 'thisIsMyFunction()' (camel convention) is quite often, but one may prefer C-like naming ('this_is_my_function()' - so like internal variables?) or TeX convention ('thisismyfunction()') (natural to standard function, so we don't have 'string:g_sub()' or 'string:gSub()' but 'string:gsub()'). I'd say this to a wider discussion. You may get inspired from existing code as Patrick wrote, or e.g. to have a look into .lua scripts in ctx minimals. Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt name/branding
Hello, my opinion is that ConTeXt including capitalization of some preselected letters is OK. Imagine - how new mode of work brings ConTeXt (and other TeX family) to someone who knows only or has been working with Word before! If it's to much to someone to remember correct ConTeXt writing (or to use \context macro - I never used it before, so I'm not sure whether such a macro exists; if it doesn't, it might be useful to define it; like \LaTeX in LaTeX), than it's probable one will not want to see-through the whole typesetting system (and more, ConTeXt may be a bit simpler for usage than LaTeX) and to learn how to typeset in this system (as he may be used to click an icon by mouse to get the required operation). Also - if someone sees ConTeXt written, he may ask why some letters are capitalized. Especially seeing TeX should be preserved as it demonstrates relation to TeX; first letter uppercase (C) is common in (majority) of program names; and thus I'd keep the whole ConTeXt as I feel it as a mark. Please take all above as my personal opinion; I don't like to touch anyone's point of view. Many packages are not needed since the same functionality is offered by ConTeXt core. [NTG-context] Which packages?
Hello, I'm new to ConTeXt; I've been working with LaTeX but I'd like to try ConTeXt due to some reasons. The question is - - is there a manual, web site or something where comparison of LaTeX/ConTeXt packages/modules would be done? Normally I was using the fancyvrb (\VerbatimInput) + option firstline=... and lastline=... respectively and pdfpages (\includepdf} + pages=... LaTeX packages; what's the equivalent for them in ConTeXt? Is there a place where to study module/package similarities/equivalences? Thank you in advance.
