I thought this was already implemented in context because of Hans's talk in
TUG 2010[1].

It can be done manually, of course, by just manual insertions of U+0640.
Did you mean something else by 'manual'?

As for automatic, it is in the pipeline and my hope is it will be done by
 Spring if not earlier.

Re: [NTG-context] wrong behaviour with ConTeXt unicode bidi

2013-09-12 Thread Vafa Khalighi
There is one more problem with the default method:

\starttext

\setupalign[r2l]

\definefont[arabicfont][Arial*arabic at 20pt]

\setupdirections[bidi=global,method=default]

1.

\stoptext

from right to left perspective it prints 1. (dot after digit 1) as .1
(dot before digit 1) however method one and two work correctly.

I’m skeptical that bidi can be implemented in a one pass algorithm,
there have been a one pass algorithm called “Pretty Good Bidi
Algorithm”, but it has its limitation (I never tested it myself).

Sure, although it can be close to okay with some backward and forward
scanning but I'm nbot really in the mood for that now. Anyhow, for the
occasional mix of arabic and latin this method works ok. For more extreme
cases method 'one' will do and method 'two' ... well it depends on
developments in unicode as this method will be the more configurable one.
(And I can probably make a faster implementation of method two when
 performance matters.)

In TeX you can not have multi page tabular unless you program something. I
want to know about the ConTeXt algorithm of doing this. In LaTeX there are
two packages longtable and suopertabular each with advantages and
disadvantages so I have been interested to see how ConTeXt handles multipage
tabular.

Re: [NTG-context] How to prevent empty page after MPpage?

2009-07-13 Thread Vafa Khalighi

Thanks a lot!!! The magic apparently works. I don't understand what
exactly the obeylines macro does (it seems that it just makes sure
that none of line endings get lost, not even inside definition
 itself).

sometimes when you typeset a piece of text like poems, you actually want to
go to the next line, so one solution would be to put a \par at the end of
each line but if there are too much of these lines, then you will get sick
of typing \par at the end of each line and so there is a CS namely
\obeylines that does this automatically. Lets look at one example:

I am a Plain \TeX\ user,\par
and you are a Con\TeX t User,\par
There are other people who use La\TeX,\par
but we all are \TeX\ users.

{\obeylines
I am a Plain \TeX\ user,
and you are a Con\TeX t user.
There are other people who use La\TeX,
but we all are \TeX\ users.}

See in the above one, whenever I wanted to end the line and go to the next
line, I had to put a \par, but in the second one I just put \obeylines which
is the same that means ecah end of my lines will be treated like a \par.

Re: [NTG-context] from latex pstricks to context

2009-07-13 Thread Vafa Khalighi

 What is the sense of \startPSTRICKS ... \stopPSTRICKS ?

Maybe he meant:

\startpspicture

\stoppspicture

The actual macros of pstricks are defined in pstricks.tex and that is all
Plain TeX. I myself generally would do something like this in Plain TeX

\input pstricks
\pspicture(0,0)(2,2)
\psline(1,1)(2,2)
\endpspicture

\bye

and In LaTeX actually if you want to define an environment, you can use
\def\environment and \def\endenvironment. I guess then you could probably
use it in ConTeXt as

\startpspicture

\stoppspicture

and you can probable load pstricks by saying \usemodule[pstricks] or
anything that context uses.

Re: [NTG-context] Gedit in Ubuntu as a ConteXt editor

2008-12-02 Thread vafa

You even can use LaTeX Plug-in of Gedit but it only recognises LaTeX commands
so if you write in ConTeXt or plain TeX, it will think that you have got a
master document.

But without the plug-in, you can do anything.

I agree with you. Gedit is the best editor. I wished that TeXworks also would
include some of Gedit's features.

Subject: [NTG-context] Gedit in Ubuntu as a ConteXt editor

HI ConTeXt friends!

I've been using Gedit on my ubuntu system for quite some time and is
very much happy with it.

Here are some advantages:

* UTF-8 encoding by default (which is in mind for LuaTeX).

* highly configurable code snippets. reading xml-files.

* Defining your own typesetting commands and associate it with some
keycombination.

Drawbacks

* Syntax highlighting for LaTeX but works for context-specific also

* I'm not sure if it is portable to windows

* Some learning curve to learn how to create special ConTeXt plugin like
this http://live.gnome.org/Gedit/LaTeXPlugin

I've recently tested texworks but it seems missing the snippets
capabilities.

Is it someone out there who has experience in Gedit?

ConTeXt peaple always have used to say that ConTeXt is better than LaTeX.

I have been recieving emails from CoNTeXt list and it seems that ConTeXt has
heaps of bugs.

LaTeX rocks...!

I am on the wrong list because I just said ``LaTeX rocks''?

I would like to apologise you and anyone else from the bottom of my heart if I
have offended you and others, but honestly I did not mean it.

I am just on this list because I want to study ConText (its TeX programming)
more deeply.

?

for sure the luatex/mkiv (not to be confused with pdftex/mkii) pair has
heaps of bugs (which are solved at some point) but it's just because we
move on and because users here are willing to experiment with new stuff

 LaTeX rocks...!

then you're on the wrong list -)
