-- Forwarded message -- From: Jerzy Ludwichowski BachoTeX 2015: Various faces of typography == Since several years we are trying not to forget what TeX/MetaFont and their variants and combinations are for. Remember why Prof. Knuth set out to create TeX? We will continue in this spirit also during the forthcoming BachoTeX conference. Here is Andrzej Tomaszewski's rationale: Texts formed into direct or abstract writings and pictures are inseparable elements of the visual presentation of thought. During the millennia of our civilization this method of peoples communication reached the ability to record precisely scientific, social and artistic statements. Typography is an art of organizing text and in a broader context - publications as a whole. Text structures receive different shapes: from a sequence of simple sentences through futuristic poetry, statisticians tables, mathematicians formulas linguists dictionaries and even programmers listings. Sequences of alphanumeric signs require proper treatment – for once as a material for data processing and second, as a communique created for human readers consumption. This is what we will be talking about during BachoTeX. Papers/presentations Of course we look forward to the normal mix of TeX, MetaPost, ConTeXt, LaTeX, and friends related presentations. Please not not forget fonts! Please note the “Call for TeX Pearls” further down. The normal channel of offering papers is emailing proposals to the Program Committee, but before rushing off to the mailer, please consult the info for authors (http://www.gust.org.pl/bachotex/2015-en/submissions). Workshops and tutorials === Especially welcome are proposals for TeX-related tutorials or introductions. If you have suggestions for tutorials or workshops by others than yourself or about specific topics, please let us know. The following are in initial planning: * calligraphy * book binding Poster sessions === Participants will be given the opportunity to present their TeX and typographic results in the form of posters for which we provide exhibition space. TeX Pearls == We continue the tradition of the “Pearls of TeX Programming”. MetaFont/MetaPost do also fall into that category. Deadlines and addresses === The deadline for “regular” abstracts and other proposals is March 28th 2015. The deadline for final papers to appear in the conference materials is April 11th. [NTG-context] BachoTeX 2009: the final invitation!
Dear GUST and BachoTeX Friends! BachoTeX 2009 is mercilessly coming (http://gust.org.pl/bachotex/2009) :-) We were able to negotiate an extension of the deadline to give the final numbers of the participants with the net effect to have the (well, not so) early-bird-registrations date to become now April 13th, Easter Monday, until midnight. From the conference page the following links are available: -- payments info (behind the Fees link), -- the registration form, -- the current list of presentations (there are some abstracts translations missing; work is under way), -- the schedule framework (behind Schedule). Linux here and everything seems to work… Ubuntu hardy heron / firefox3 last beta / mplayer plugin (but I also can see the flash movies). Olivier. [NTG-context] BachoTeX 2008 -- Call for Papers -- reminder
Dear friends,
The BachoTeX 2008 Program Committee dares to remind you of the quickly
upcoming deadline for submitting paper proposals for the BachoTeX 2008
conference. The Call for Papers and TeX Pearls can be found
http://www.gust.org.pl/BachoTeX/2008/cfp1en.
We trust that the main theme of the conference, ,,TeX contra TeX''
should be of a great interest to the community at large and the
various developers in particular.
You may have noted that the supplementing theme Aesthetic aspects
of typesetting is also addressed to those who use other typesetting
software. If you know people active in this area please talk them
into presenting a paper.
Your children or very young TeXies in your vicinity are invited to
contribute in the yet another conference supplementing theme What
is TeX to me?
Based on suggestions and experiences from previous years, one day of
the conference will be devoted solely to working meetings of the
various informal interest groups (no presentations):
- fonts,
- TeX engines,
- distributions,
- supporting software,
- typesetting software in general,
- propagating TeX,
- history of TeX
-- you name it. Talk your common interest buddies into coming and/or
propose a paper.
Do not forget submitting your TeX Pearls aka TeX beauties and
oddities!
And, finally -- registration is open at
http://www.gust.org.pl/BachoTeX/2008/registration-en. Please note
that early registration ending March 31 allows for a significant
saving in the conference fee.
