You can’t mix keywords and assignments in the same argument.

\startitemize[a][stopper={)}]

I forget how I discovered the option "three," but it worked in  
January with an older version of Context.

The problem appeared with the reverse option, it has something
to do with the new method to find the first and last values ConTeXt
writes in the first run to the tuo-file and fail to read them in the
second run.
