VPN's

2001-09-16 Thread SysAdm

Hi
everybody,

Very general
question. My company is interested in changing from Frame Relay to VPN. It looks
very interesting to us, especially since you can save quite a bit of money with
it, but

Who has made
experiences with VPN's, good ones or bad ones. What about security, bandwidth,
reliability etc. Am interested in any information.

Thanks.

RE: Uninstalling SP2 via Recovery Console

2001-09-16 Thread Mark

Are you running mirrors? I believe those are simiilar symptoms as to
booting off the wrong disk of a mirror set. If not that, double-check
your boot.ini against valid params ID'd in Q102873 and Q227704.
If you still can't get it, add /sos to the end of the boot.ini entry to
see a list of drivers loaded. See what the last driver is. What kind of
HD drive and controller setup do you have?
If neither of those are it, and you haven't installed any new HW (IRQ
conflict) or messed with services (dependecies), I'd try a repair
process (you do have your EBD, right?)

BTW, here's a list of info on the Recovery Console and valid commands
(it'll explain why you can't run the uninstall from RC)

Subject: How to beat a deadlock with Service Manager?

I use Win NT W/S v. 4+SP6a

On boot-up I get six "Event ID: 3" reports (in the Event Log) relating
to "WinSock Proxy Client" (I have WSP 2 SP1 installed on a local, dual
NIC, server).

The event detail Description in each case take the form: -

"Application [xx.exe]. The application was started while the service
manager was locked and NtLmSsp wasn't running. If the application will
try to remote via WinSock Proxy it can cause a deadlock with the service
manager. For this reason the remoting is disabled. If the application is
a service, and you want it to be able to remote, make it dependent on
NtLmSsp."

Can someone please explain how I "make it dependent on NtLmSsp".

I don't know how to make the change to enforce the wait for the
load/initialisation of NtLmSsp (the NTLM Security Support Provider)
before any of the six problem routines attempt to load etc.

My thanks to all/any person(s) willing to share their knowledge to help
me out with this problem.
