Um, just boot it up and uninstall the extensions, reboot, then install the
Hyper-V integration services.

Of you if prefer to be safer, then uninstall the extensions when it's running
under Virtual Server. Then copy across the VHD to your Hyper-V box. Then start
it up and install Integration Services.

Mike,

So if you buy a Chevy and a part goes bad do you refuse to take it to a
dealer to have it serviced putting all your trust in only local small
shops with hit-and-miss quality and reliability? That's the same
argument that you just made regarding anti-malware, since it is
obviously in the manufacturer's best interest to make a shoddy product
so you have to get it serviced more often. The same argument can be made
for any other product ever created, and yet quality as a whole in our
world continues to improve as opposed to degrading.

My personal approach is to buy the best product available for the
solution I am in need of. I used to be a huge fan of Eset and NOD32 (I
believe I actually got a number of people on the list to start using
it), but I believe that their product quality took a hit when they went
from v2.x to v3.x (I had been using it since v1.35 or so). I still think
that Eset makes a good product also, but in my opinion it is no longer
as good as ForeFront IMHO. And if you have ever dealt with Microsoft
before then you know that the left hand definitely has no idea what the
right hand is doing, you're lucky if people in the same product group
are all on the same page.

makes a case for why they would be the best choice. But to need the

I just went through removing NOD32 and installing Microsoft's ForeFront
Client Security product and I am thrilled. FF does deployment via AD
integrated policies allowing for all machines to be covered with no
manual installation required. It has anti-virus and anti-spyware
capabilities (it found, and removed, a fairly large amount of spyware
that NOD had not picked up), but it also does Security State checks
where it looks at the overall security stance of your computers. i.e.
- It will inform you of machines with blank admin passwords, passwords
without expirations set, admin groups with too many members, Windows
security updates missing, and a lot of other things. These security
checks give you a view into your overall security situation that I have
not seen provided by other products yet.

Great product IMO,

My Docs Redirection

2008-07-04 Thread gsweers
Strange issue, we have a client that has been using 2003 SBS for a
couple of years now, on and off for the past few months they will be
working remotely, OFFLINE, and the contents of the My Docs just poofs
vanishes. All of the data is on the server, and when they come back in
it all syncs back and is fine. Sometimes this works for weeks, months,
other times they lose it several times daily.

XP Pro SP2, they have PGP loaded on them doing whole disk encryption but
that's been there for quite awhile. Its killer when they go overseas
and poof the files go bye bye and they have 25 gigs of data in their My
Docs. I also verified that the laptops have at least 30 or 45 gig free
after a full sync.

If I look in the Offline Store the files are gone. They are not
deleting them, I have watched it happen. This seems to have been a big
issue a few years ago but nothing real recent I have found using
googlefu.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Unless I am mistaken xp sp3 should allow you have an installation
without a key entered. This is great for testing. But when I am doing
the install it will still ask for a number and wont bypass. Any idea
what I am missing?

Thanks

Emergency - My Docs Redirection

2008-07-04 Thread gsweers
Sorry, the owner is now calling stating they are all flying out Monday
and need this fixed before then. Any ideas where to look? I just made
a GP change to force the cache to 40% of the users drive. Not sure why
we can store 30 gig on one for months and then poof most of or all of
the files go poof. This states it will force automatic caching which is
what My Docs Redirection is via GP to not go higher than that amount.

Anything else I can try, we have already reset the CSC cache several
times. I should also state this is on two different laptops, recently
rebuilt as well. Happened once before rebuild and at least one time
after.

Subject: My Docs Redirection

This seems to have been a big
issue a few years ago but nothing real recent I have found using
googlefu.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Greg

I wish I had a solution for you. I've seen this happen randomly enough
that I no longer allow workstations to work offline.
