Joomla site move
Hi All I’m new to Joomla so please forgive any glaring idiocies I have a new client who have a Joomla based site, the site being on Joomla version 1.0.15, the current web hosts are less than helpful and so the client wants to move his site away to another hosting provider the current hosting provider will not allow access to the site control panel for FTP access nor access to the MySQL control panel for backups. but will zip up the site files and database backup and send them across question: can I set up a new hosting provider with latest versions of Joomla, MySQL etc. and just copy in the site files and restore the database I know I will have to tweak the database connection from Joomla to the MySQL db but will the rest just copy over I’m going to set this up in the lab before trying it live thank you Laurence ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/ ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin

Before the P2V I did make sure it held no FSMO roles as well DCPROMO it out of being a DC, then P2V, then DCPROMO back up. Once it came up as a VM, I assigned the IP info to the “new” NIC, checked replication, DCDIAG, DHCP requests, etc. and it all came up good. Our wireless system (Meru) uses RADIUS and since the P2V we have had many clients now have connect/disconnect/reconnect/disconnect issues. 1. We have 25 access points spread over six floors in our building 2. Meru connected via GotoAssist and was able to confirm their controller and the RADIUS server are passing auth requests as expected 3. Deleting and re-creating the wireless profile seems to fix this issue 4. Not 100% of our users are affected, but probable 75% of them are Anyone see anything similar before? Re: Joomla site move
I don't know Joomla, do know Drupal, but structurally they aren't that different being Apache, MySQL, PHP. You are probably going to want to try Joomla forums but at a guess you will need the database and the files (good to know the hosts version of PHP too). You will probably need to install the exact same version of Joomla and then go through the upgrade process. If they give you the database and files you 'should' be able to get it going with that. (That and a LAMP setup). Good luck, Steven Peck http://www.blkmtn.org On Wed, Mar 6, 2013 at 1:39 AM, Laurence laurence.chi...@jalapeno-bs.co.ukwrote: Hi All I’m new to Joomla so please forgive any glaring idiocies I have a new client who have a Joomla based site, the site being on Joomla version 1.0.15, the current web hosts are less than helpful and so the client wants to move his site away to another hosting provider the current hosting provider will not allow access to the site control panel for FTP access nor access to the MySQL control panel for backups. but will zip up the site files and database backup and send them across question: can I set up a new hosting provider with latest versions of Joomla, MySQL etc. and just copy in the site files and restore the database I know I will have to tweak the database connection from Joomla to the MySQL db but will the rest just copy over I’m going to set this up in the lab before trying it live thank you Laurence ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/ ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to listmana...@lyris.sunbeltsoftware.com with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog!
RE: Joomla site move
I don't believe you would be able to import the Joomla 1.0.15 database directly into the most recent version of Joomla and have it work. Set up a VM with LAMP of XAMPP or WAMP - you may need to make sure you have the same versions of MYSQL and PHP as on the current host server. Install the current site on the VM with the exported files and get it working. Snapshot or backup the VM. Research the upgrade path on the Joomla site and upgrade step by step, making snapshots or backups after each successful upgrade. You will most likely run in to a problem of the current version 1.x template not working with newer versions of Joomla, so you may need to find updated versions of the template or find an alternative. You may also run into problems with any plugins or extensions they have installed - again newer versions or alternatives may need to be installed along the way. The goal would be to get the VM updated to the same versions of Joomla, MYSQL and PHP that are on the target host. At that point it is trivial to transfer it to the new host. Depending on the complexity of the web site it may be easier and cleaner to just recreated it directly in a newer version. -Original Message- From: Laurence [mailto:laurence.chi...@jalapeno-bs.co.uk] Sent: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 4:39 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Joomla site move Hi All I’m new to Joomla so please forgive any glaring idiocies I have a new client who have a Joomla based site, the site being on Joomla version 1.0.15, the current web hosts are less than helpful and so the client wants to move his site away to another hosting provider the current hosting provider will not allow access to the site control panel for FTP access nor access to the MySQL control panel for backups. but will zip up the site files and database backup and send them across question: can I set up a new hosting provider with latest versions of Joomla, MySQL etc. and just copy in the site files and restore the database I know I will have to tweak the database connection from Joomla to the MySQL db but will the rest just copy over I’m going to set this up in the lab before trying it live thank you Laurence ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog!
Re: Joomla site move
You should be able to just take the backup zip they send you restore it to a new server change the configurations (connection strings and such) and have the site up and running. Do that then tackle the upgrade to latest Joomla. Make sure the MySQL backup they give you includes both schema and data. --T On Wed, Mar 6, 2013 at 1:39 AM, Laurence laurence.chi...@jalapeno-bs.co.ukwrote: Hi All I’m new to Joomla so please forgive any glaring idiocies I have a new client who have a Joomla based site, the site being on Joomla version 1.0.15, the current web hosts are less than helpful and so the client wants to move his site away to another hosting provider the current hosting provider will not allow access to the site control panel for FTP access nor access to the MySQL control panel for backups. but will zip up the site files and database backup and send them across question: can I set up a new hosting provider with latest versions of Joomla, MySQL etc. and just copy in the site files and restore the database I know I will have to tweak the database connection from Joomla to the MySQL db but will the rest just copy over I’m going to set this up in the lab before trying it live thank you Laurence ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog!

RE: DNS settings for Trusts
So here's what I think is happening, still awaiting confirmation from other site admin. Everything you asked below is exactly how I'm set up. What I discovered is they have a dozen or so DNS servers at their main and other remote sites which are all connected via their MPLS links. I'm connecting in via a VPN tunnel. Pretty sure my VPN tunnel only has access to the core subnet where their main DNS is at that I'm already successfully exchanging zone information with. When their zone populates with their SRV records it loads all their DC's for all their sites, and they are all weighted equally. Therefore when I try to ping their domain.local I get random responses from the various DC's they have, most of which I can't connect to because I'm guessing the VPN tunnel isn't allowing traffic to any subnet other than the core. I've asked their admin to weight their SRV record for the core DC's higher than all the others and see if this fixes the problem.
