List of all executable files

2001-09-24 Thread Jang Man

Is there such a list for all Windows versions? I need to put it in McAfee VirusScan to
scan program files only. When 'Scan all files' is selected, work gets t slow,
specially for programmers.
I hope I can get a full list, that doesn't need to be updated every time new virus
arrives.

Thanks,

RE: Duplicate Name Found

Do you have a multihomed server with 2 NICs? If NetBIOS computer name is bound to
both, you can get this error.

I am getting Duplicate name found when I restart a NT server. I know that
the name is not a duplicate. The only way I can get the server back on
and working is to unplug the network connections and reboot the system.
Once I login I can reconnect the network connections and all is well. Any
ideas of what would make the server think there was a duplicate name?

Hi, Jang Man

I have use macafee's anti-virus for 3 years now and have found that the file list
worksa on the file extension only.

Mcafee's does not do each executable files but all executables as defined by the file
extension.

RE: Discontinuation of BackOffice Server 2000

Is that true? I've got BackOffice 2000 on my system, upgraded from NT few moths ago.
Does that mean we are not supported any more, despite BO is just a bunch of standalone

Yes, this is correct. It is being replaced by Small Business Server
2000 which contains: Exchange 2000, SQL 2000, ISA and Terminal Services. I
recently purchased the Upgrade and am implementing it on my network at work.

MS has already discontinued support for Backoffice 2000 so if you do get it
you are on your own.

This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.

America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a
remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair,
a Canadian television commentator.
What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as
printed in the Congressional Record:

This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as
the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people
on all the earth.
Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were
lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in
billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest
on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the
Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted
and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States
that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities
were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars
into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are
writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over
the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane.
Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal
the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?
If so, why don't they fly them?
Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American
Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or
woman on the moon?
You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios.
You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the
moon-not once, but several times-and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right
in the store window for everybody to look at.

Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are
here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking
Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home
to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down
through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them.
When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke,
nobody loaned them an old caboose.
Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of
other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when
someone else raced to the Americans in trouble?
I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco
earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is
damned tired of hearing them get kicked around.
They will

There are a couple towns not far from me where they are celebrating in the
streets over the incident.
I know this is the greatest country to live in. Where else could you see
thousands of people die and hold a rally without being arrested.

The simple fact is there are individuals in our country who are here to reap
the benefits and give nothing back. If it were not true, they would not work
so hard to get here.

I feel that if you do not want to contribute you should leave.
And that goes for anyone no matter who you are.

Anybody using Shared fax services from BO server 2000?

2001-09-10 Thread Jang Man

Morning,

we have migrated to Win2000 and cost of upgrading our fax server (Faxination 3.0
Standard) to work with Exchange 2000 is pretty high. We don't need everybody to send
faxes, just from 5 desktops.

How does shared fax services that come with BackOffice server fit into this? What are
potential problems? How does it integrate with Exchange 2000?

We have Brooktrout TR114 fax board. Any chance to share this device or do we have to
use Class2.0 modem?

Thanks,

We have eight NT4 sp6a servers running Oracle where Oracle just dies.
That is Tivoli reports the srvice for Oracle is stopped. When checked it
is stoppped and there are no errors in any eventlog nor in any Oracle
logs. The Oracle DBA and myself are stumped. We cannot find any errors
or records of any recent changes to the systems. These problems were
noticed about In the past three months or so ago.

Four serveres are running Oracle 7.3.4 and the other four are running
Oracle 8.1.6. Each week at least one of them drops out (the Oracle
service that is). A server may run for a month or two before the Oracle
service stops. Some servers are in Dallas and some are in NY. All have a
similare frequency of failure and it happens at various times of day.

Has anyone experienced this? Or have any ideas where we can start looking
or what we can monitor? Technet and Oracle knowledge bases do not seem to
record any thing similar.

Thanks in advance

Doug.
