It was the IronPort. It seems that before AsyncOS 7.6 there was a larger file size limit, 40M it is now 10M (and as some people correctly pointed out with MIME encoding accounting for 150% inflation) you have a functional limit of around 7.5M although YMMV. Hotel room router with wifi and gigabit E-net
My boss travels a lot and sometimes carries several toys with her. She has expressed a wish to have the following added to her travel kit: Hotel room router with the following capabilities: 1. Gigabit wired Ethernet 2. Wi-Fi, preferably multi type, including N 3. PPTP client capabilities. (Important) 4. USB storage connection 5. 110-220 V power supply I don't mind buying her a consumer type device as long as it fulfills her requirements. Just an explanation for the PPTP client requirement. She wants the router to open a VPN to our corporate network and that connection should be available to all the toys she connects to this router. I can set up a filtered PPTP host in our firewall, so that is not a problem. Any suggestions? RE: Hotel room router with wifi and gigabit E-net
Hi Greg, Yes, you are right. PPTP client is the only VPN that will work thru a hotel router in this case. Her computer can do that without problems, but she wants to share the VPN with her other toys, that's why I am looking for a router with PPTP VPN client functionality. She tried a Linksys Wi-Fi access thing that could let her use a hotel Wi-Fi in her room, but that is not the solution here. She wants to use the copper cable in the room and give access to her IPhone and iPad and also let the iPad get to the corporate network via the VPN handled by the router/Wi-Fi thing. Bulky is NOT a problem. The company pays for excess baggage. And Yes, she wants FAST transfer between wired laptops in her room. Sigh!! That's mainly an issue with the type of network at the hotel. Some require you to get a static IP and then call a helpdesk, others its never a problem, most require some type of authentication before getting out to the internet.. Also if you put in a commercial device its most likely going to pull a NATTED IP address from the hotel and then you boss will grab another Natted IP from your device, so you will be doing double natting. This alone could cause you some VPN issue, especially IPSEC. Best bet is to get a portable WIFI AP that's not a router and will just give you wifi in the room if hardwire is the only thing available. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=346 I use this in AP mode when I need to. Most hotels I stay at have wifi in the rooms so its not a problem and rarely do I have VPN issues, never RDP issues. Its not N wireless, but I am sure there are some out there. However N is going to be quite bulky with all the antennas. This doesn't have a USB connection for storage. As to Gigabit, there is no point as you wont benefit unless you are transferring data between devices hardline in your room. The future is here
I am in Korea on a gig and is staying at a hotel in New Songdo City. When I plugged my laptop into the network cable at the work desk and then checked my connection it showed me that I had a public IP and when I did an ADSL speed test, it gave me 80 Mbps in and 15 Mbps out. Now that will give me a very nice VPN back to HQ. The only drawback is that the power outlet at the desk is controlled by the key card holder at the door. I enter the room, put my key card in the holder and I have power. I tried leaving a card board dummy there, but the room maid removes it when they service the room. Solution: There is a hot power outlet behind the minibar refrigerator. Get an extension cord and you can leave your notebook and router on while you leave your room. This is definitely the hotel of the future. I have never seen these speeds at hotels in the US. What is your experience? Leif Admin by default Leif T. Robocopy
Hi List, I must be getting old (at least that is what my wife is telling me), because I cannot find the right switches for Robocopy.. I am trying to find the switch that lists just the files copied, not all files in the source. I am redirecting the console output to a file if that has any bearing on my problem. RE: Robocopy
Yabbut, This what my info file says about that: Logging Options : /L :: List only - don't copy, timestamp or delete any files. I want to copy, but I don't want to see all files in the source in the log file. RE: Windows update icon missing
Thanks Sam, That .CMD file did the trick. The service restarted and then showed the icon and let me review the updates. Windows update icon missing
Hi Folks, In my lab I have a workstation that was sitting turned off at a shelf for 3 months. The other day I needed it and started it up again. Now, when I want to turn it off, it is showing me that there are pending updates that will be installed when I click on Shut off. However, there is no Update icon in the systray, so I cannot review what updates are pending. How can I fix this? Google gives me thousands of hits on missing icon, but not what I am looking for. Happy New Year to ya'll. Leif cid:image001.gif@01C84A00.0B17BE60 Leif T.
